And indeed it is, the news and progress has been bumpy for the last few months here at RE SOF myself and several other members have been busy with other projects or just had no time for RE SOF itself. I’m currently trying to fix this as the mod is a little in-active. I’m currently working on a solution and I hope to have something running soon to keep members in line or off the team.

Well Sorry the lack of updates peeps! Untill next time!

Related: HL2 - Jolt
We were recently interviewed and reviewed by Al3xand3r from http://www.hl2.jolt.co.uk/. Here is half of the review, discluding the interview:
For the first of our feature articles, we will be taking a closer look into a promising project which, sadly, hasn't attracted a lot of attention from the public or the various news websites despite its unique and exciting concept. The modification in question is Curse.

Taking place on a harsh alien world where every inhabitant is equipped with unique powers and weapons in order to survive, Curse will, at heart, be a third person competitive melee combat game. However, the developers have invested a lot of time in designing the various game play mechanics and have filled the initially simplistic concept with a lot of creative and unique ideas.

The first and perhaps most important feature is the fact that players no longer have to rely on the usual health gauges. Their well being is instead based on a complex stamina system that decreases and increases according to their actions (or inaction). However, skill is the most important factor here since a careless moment may cost them their head. That's speaking literally as Curse will also feature realistic weapon damage coupled with a solid decapitation system!

Hi again friends, as you may see the web site we currently have right now is displeasing to the eyes to say the least, thus we are in need of a talented and experienced web designer that could provide us a nice, and professional looking site. Of course we do still have job openings, I do believe we need to take care of this first and foremost.

As well the forums are still bare and need a make over, that's open for help as well.

Besides the current cry for help I’d say things are going quite smoothly models are being churned out by the great moding team and Dogmatic is still giving progress to our first city map which will be quite huge if I do say so myself. More news to come, and hopefully in a much nicer form.

Been a while since I have had an up to date mapping website, taken a big year out from mapping really. My old site http://imagination.hlgaming.com should no longer be accessible, this is now my permanent site and address. The design is simple as I really do not see the point in making a big fancy website. Big thanks to Mitchel Skurnik (MJCS-gTFC-) for the hosting and sorting everything out. Done everything quickly, well and provided me with appropriate information. You've been great! Now to my 'real' news.

I have got a couple of low quality maps in the portfolio section which were made around about a year and 3months ago and are available to download, and I now have plans for other projects. Outbreak will be a small single player mission for Half-Life 2. As of yet the main setting is not yet been decided, it is possible you may be playing as Gordon or a rebel, and I may try and re-create some scenes from the old docks trailers that I have seen. I can not gurantee there will be anything similar to those scenes, but I was a big fan of the docks trailer, so that will inspire me along with the existing Half-Life 2 levels. Outbreak will of course take a while to create and will take up a big chunk of my time so I am not expecting to finish it until the Summer time.

Valerie is a new creation I have started for the Natural-Selection mod on the Half-Life engine. I am really aiming for a big indoor sci-fi environment which has the same sort of atmosphere of the official maps, and well known 'serious' custom maps. You can expect Valerie to be a classic map with the ns_ prefix, and expect it to be of a much higher quality than Glory which is in my portfolio. The aim is to get the final version of Valerie out before my birthday, which is May. Although I expect beta's will be coming out around Easter time. The best way to keep track of this level will be through a design thread on the Unknown Worlds forums, I will provide a link when it is relevant.

Anyway, I have not really got much on the site at the moment and I will be updating this one alot more than I did the other site. You can also expect more screenshots, downloads and I may even upload some tutorials. I also have a small plan to do a 'mini help class' every so often on mIRC which would probably be once a week. If it was to happen I could not see it coming before March due to school work, and my plans to transfer to another school next year which is taking time away from me at the moment. Until next update, I will leave you with nothing but the rest of the site and the two small images at the top right of the page as a little tease.

Source: Resistance and Liberation
In an ongoing effort to make the Resistance and Liberation website the best that it can be, we have given our website a complete overhaul.
Though most of the same graphics are still in use, pages should load more quickly and work on more platforms with a wider variety of browsers. For those of you familiar with web standards, our websites is nearly 100% XHTML 1.0 Transitional and CSS2 Standards compliant.
This revamp also marks the rebirth of the Picture of the Week feature.
If you feel you've got a picture worthy of being the next Picture of the Week, you can submit it to our official thread here.

Most importantly, our media page has been updated with more than 30 new renders! These new renders are higher resolution and higher quality, giving you a closer look at the objects you'll soon be seeing in RnL. Among these new renders there are renders of our updated American PIR player models. They have had polys added to them to take advantage of the incredible visuals the Source engine is capable of.

Those of you who have been following Resistance and Liberation for some time know that we have kept our most unique and exciting features under wraps. The time has come that we paint a more clear picture of what kind of infantry simulation Resistance and Liberation will really be. This, and other exciting new media, is coming very soon.

Source: Hostile Intent
I've got a double update for all you loyal hostiles today! Hot off the presses are some choice screens from the newest incarnation of hi_hotel, and some fresh v_models too!

But first I would like to announce that I have joined the team as a level designer and to help the Grand Sage Ikusa with this public relations thing. I'd also like to thank the team (and by team I mean testers too, because you're as much members of the team as any of us) for welcoming me so warmly.

Now, on to business! Have a look at these wonderful screenshots from 1.4:

New TV. Maybe this one won't thirst for blood the way the old one did...

Is that what I think it is?

The figures from last quarter are in--we're making bombs as fast as NATO can defuse them!

Come stay at Hotel 1.4, where there's no vacancy. Unless you're a Tango.

Half-Life 2, Source Engine and Source Dedicated Server updates are available and will be applied automatically when Steam is restarted. The changes include:

Source Engine
  • Improved the performance of writing out save games. This will reduce the pause when you pass over an autosave trigger in Half-Life 2, or when you press the quicksave button

  • Improved the performance of writing out the thumbnail image for save games. This will also reduce the pause when passing over an autosave trigger or pressing the quicksave button

  • Increased cache memory usage for machines that have greater than 512MB of physical memory. This will reduce hitching due to cache thrashing.

  • Optimized the sound cache manager, which will reduce hitching as a result of sound cache thrashing

  • Minor optimization to the world renderer and world collision

  • Minor optimization to the way that asynchronous sound files are loaded

  • Optimized the way that sounds were loaded that are trigged by acting sequences

  • Optimization to reduced the number of times model sequences are iterated on per frame

Half-Life 2
  • Weapon script files are preloaded at startup, instead of when they are accessed. This will reduce some hitches while playing Half-Life 2

Linux Server
  • Added "-pidfile" command line argument to output a pid file on startup
