The Story
You are Gordon Freeman. You've just been assigned to work at the Black Mesa
Research Facility. Upon your arrival, things are out of the ordinary. Computer crashes,
hardware problems, a mysterious g-man, it's all odd. But you have to hurry!
You're already running late, they're waiting for you Gordon, in the test
chamber!
At the entrance of the test chamber you meet 2 scientists explaining what's going on today. You can already read from their conversation that something's not really ok. Yet you continue. The big test chamber houses a mysterious machine. Let's just hope that that resonance cascade the scientists were talking about, won't become a reality. Who knows what will happen? Ah! The test sample is ready.
Oh, no! It's going critical! The sample, that purest sample, the problems! It's a resonance cascade! The ground trembles, lights flash, the alarms sounds, explosions follow. Suddenly, you find yourself somewhere else, you hear your heart pound and your breath stops dead in your throat, the only question you can come up with is: 'What the...?!'
Thus Begins Your Struggle...
About
1998 Game of the Year, Half-Life was
developed by Valve Software. From
its release, Half-Life went on to win over 50 'Game of the Year' awards from
various publications. This of course was no surprise, Half-Life introduced a
whole different world to the FPS gamers, and is still a benchmark for even the
most recently released games.
Furthermore, Half-Life's success didn't just fade out over time, the more
creative fans in the community took it upon themselves to keep the game alive for
many years by developing their own modifications, some of which were almost more
of a success than the original title - can anyone say Counter-Strike?
In conclusion, Half-Life set new standards, and then proceeded to break them itself,
what more can you ask for in a game?
Life Forms
Here at HLGaming, we didn't want to show you all the enemies because we don't want to take all the surprises away from you, so we made a short list to get you started.
Humans
Grunts
These guys tend to be more aggressive because they pack a mp5 that'll take you down quick, just be careful around these guys because they can take you down quick.
Scientists
These you will see alot and almost always they are out to help you in some form or another.
Security Guards
You getting scared? Well tap on a secruity guard and have him follow you around, he'll protect himself with his glock and he knows how to use it. If you think your funny, and you try shooting one of the guards just to see what happens, well you better be prepared to keep on shooting them, because if you don't you'll find yourself on the ground dead.
Aliens
Alient Slabes
These guys tend to be more aggressive because they pack a mp5 that'll take you down quick, just be careful around these guys because they can take you down quick.
Headcrabs
The head Crab is one enemy in Half-Life that you will probaly see most. They always seem to try to surpise you, and they'll almost always try to scare you, but no fear they are easy to kill.
Tentacle
Weird looking things huh? These aliens lack eyes, ears or anything else in that matter are able to detect you by motion and when then do, and you guys make contact consider yourself dead. When you see these guys you need to put your running shoe's on, and get the grenades ready.
Zombie
Well these sure are ugly looking creatures huh? Well this is what a scientist/head crab tend to look like when you mix them together. Don't get there look wrong these guys are dumb, and easy to kill, just take strikes in waves...Oh and they really like brains...nom nom nom.
Weapons
Assault Shotgun
- Damage: 5pts/bullet [Max 6 Pri, Max 12 Sec]
- Ammo: 8/125
Scared? Well pick up a shotgun, and stick it in someone's face and pull the trigger. So what did that get you? I'll tell you what it got you; it's called a dead enemy! The shotgun is your all around weapon, its good to carry if your not the rapid fire type.
Colt .357 Magnum
- Damage: 40pts/hit
- Ammo: 6/36
Now this is the powerhouse, you can hold 6 rounds in this bad boy. But you better have a damn good aim, because ammo this is hard to come by. But if you're a dead on shot, and you put one piece of lead in your targets head, he'll hit the ground, and you won't have to worry about him again.
Crossbow
- Damage: 50pts/arrow
- Ammo: 5/50
This is one crossbow I bet you won't find laying around anywhere. The crossbow is the sniper dream, the points on the bow are explosive, and if you use your secondary fire you can use the zoom command to get a better shot at your enemy.
Crowbar
- Damage: 10pts/hit
What else could you ask for? I know you probably want something with more of a kick, but come on let me hit you with this in the head and see what you do. The crowbar is the first weapon in the game you will be able to use. Use it on crates, glass, or anything else that needs to be destroyed or broken. It may not be a powerful or efficient weapon, but if you're ever out of ammo, it's always there for you.
Fragmentation Grenade
- Damage: 100pts/grenade
- Ammo: 10
You see your enemy, but you can't get a good aim on them? Throw a Grenade in there with them, and hell you might get the other one you didn't see!!
Gauss Gun
- Damage: 20pts/shot (Pri) High Damage (Sec)
- Ammo: 100 (Shared with Gluon Gun)
Black Mesa Experiment. The Gauss gun is a rapid firing gun, and if you use your secondary fire, and let this baby charge, it'll kill almost any enemy, and even go through walls!
Glock 9mm. Pistol
- Damage: 8pts/hit
- Ammo: 17/250 (Shared with MP5)
Well this bad boy will hold 17 shots per clip and if you go running out in the beginning of the game unloading clips at anything that moves well lets say you'll be back using that crowbar before you know it. It has a secondary fire, firing much faster at your target, with a minor accuracy sacrifice.
Gluon Gun
- Damage: 14pts/uranium point
- Ammo: 100 (Shared with Gluon Gun)
Another one of those Black Mesa Experiment's. The Gluon gun uses a beam to incinerate anything in its path. You hold this stream on an opponent, and you might as well as put another scratch in your kills!
Laser Trip Mine
- Damage: 150pts/hit
- Ammo: 5
Here someone behind you? Set one of these on the wall and run off. When someone walks through the laser it sets off a bomb, and it'll do a good deal of damage to them.
MP5
- Damage: (Pri) 5pts/shot (Sec) 100pts/grenade
- Ammo: (Pri) 50/250 (Shared with Pistol) (Sec) 10 Grenades
The MP5 is your machine gun based weapon in Half-Life. Personally it was my favorite weapon in HL; it can spit out around 10 rounds a sec. Also it has a grenade launcher built in free of charge, and this feature can do some serious butt kicking.
RPG (Laser Guided Missile)
- Damage: 100pts/rocket
- Ammo: 1/5
Ever heard of heavy artillery? Well if you haven't I suggest you pick this bad dude up! The RGP you use by a laser point and it does one good slice of damage to anything you shoot.
Satchel Charges
- Damage: 150pts/grenade
- Ammo: 5
You a Camper? Well this weapon is for you if you don't need to use it to blow open something big. Set one of these things down on the ground then run off, and wait for someone to come by and remotely set it off, gets them every time.
Snark
- Damage: 10pts/attack
- Ammo: 15
These are some ugly ass things, but they do the job! Throw a couple of these things down at your enemy, and it'll take them down with no trouble at all! Beware... if it doesn't find an enemy to get, it'll come after you!
