DoDHQ have a quote from Waldo talking about Day of Defeat 1.1 and Steam.

In a nut shell, you need to get on to using Steam if you haven't already. Basically from now on, all updates to DoD will only be on Steam. So if you want to play 1.1, play new maps, updates to old maps, etc. you'll need to be on Steam.

I know Steam's not been the smoothest thing around for everyone, but you'll find many people have figured it out and are using it with success now. Sure, some people still have problems, and people still have questions, but it's only getting better IMO.

Don't know where to start with Steam? My first suggestion is that you go into our own Steam Forum right here on the DoD website. Lots of info on how to get started, how to fix common problems, etc.

What should you expect from DoD on Steam in the coming days, weeks, and months? Here are some definite things, plus a few things we've talked about...

- Updates (bug fixes, gameplay tweaks, etc.) to existing 1.0 maps
- Updated sounds (louder, better, more BANG!)
- New maps
- 1.1 with new features, bugs fixed, 9 way blending for player animations, and more!)
- The return of some old classic maps (Zafod, Koln, Cherbourg, and more maybe?)
- Bug fixes for things that may come up in DoD that we don't discover until it's been played for a while

Steam's the way it's gonna be here in the future. With Steam we'll be able to break away from the "release one big update once in a blue moon" to "release many smaller updates with more frequency". Basically that will keep DoD both up to date (bugs fixed, new improvements added) but also fresh. Fresh as in you'll be seeing new things more often.

When Steam + DoD get rolling, it's gonna be unstoppable!
