Half-Life 2 falls short to 1.7 million copies being sold world wide at the moment, that's what Gameshout is reporting. A bit less than expected but still a lot:

Vivendi Universal has updated its corporate news page with first official sales numbers on Half-Life 2. The company announced that Half-Life 2 sold nearly 1.7 million copies worldwide since its release less than two months ago.

That is small compared to other games such as Halo 2. Several financial people thought that Half-Life 2 would sell up to 8 million copies by now.
