I apologize for the lack of updating, there is no excuse. But I hope to make up for it with some pictures of our newest weapons. Here we have the new Colt 1911A1, model and skin both by Hoppie:

You may have seen other pictures of our M14 around, but this is a picture that shows all four versions, as well as two close ups. For this picture, I took off the mount for the Aimpoint, which I will show you in a sec:

And now to our new Aimpoint, which is miles above our old one, and don't worry about the blue squares, those will not be shown ingame:

I would also like to let everyone know that coding has begun, and we have the first internal alpha all planned out. I will do my best to update the site as much as possible. Thank you.

We have a media update from the hands of our talented crew showing off a few new renders, new concept artwork, plus some of the latest happenings with Mist Modification.

First off, I would like to welcome Mike Perry, Lochnarus and Heavnz to our crew. I also want to add a welcome and thanks to Valtrain from the HL2:CTF Mod Team for joining up to lead the development on our Capture the Booty game mode. We highly reccomend you check out his HL2:CTF Mod, for it is amazingly well done and a blast to play.

We are pleased to announce our affiliation and sponsorship with Gotfrag.com, who have graciously offered to host GameServers and TestServers for us in the future, as well as a CVS Server and other web utilities. Thanks, Gotfrag!

Please browse around our pages, which are being updated with WIP Models and Concept Art to remove/limit use of the 'Image Not Found' placeholder that has been invading our website. Also please visit our new Media Gallery, which includes our Downloads section and streaming audio for our Sound Files. We have also added a Developer Journals section to the right of the site, to keep the public in touch with the thoughts of our crew.

Our Public IRC Channel is now open! Please visit at #Mistmod on Gamesurge. »Visit Now

Our Sound crew has two files to share with you today. The first is the official Theme Music of Mist Modification, created by Kielbasa. The second is a wonderfully entertaining sound demonstration titled 'Festival' created by
Kielbasa and CaptainRED.

»Listen to Mist Theme
»Listen to Festival

First, here are a couple Concept images from our talented new artist, Mike
Perry.

The first piece of art is the Black Buccaneer Brute class. The Brute has acess to team specific Heavy Weapons, as well as an increase in Health. However, the Brute moves slower than other classes. The next piece of art is the Black Buccaneer Captain. The Captain class is adept with all weapon types, but is only avaliable to the leading scorer on your team after two minutes.

Next, I present two weapons that are featured in Mist Modification, the Black Buccaneer Dethecus, and the Cut Throat Cutlass.

The Dethecus is a daggar with a built-in flintlock pistol attached on the side. This rare Elite class weapon is only available to the Black Buccaneer Elite. This weapon can be wielded to deliver a quick shot into an enemy, and then quickly doubles as a melee weapon there afterwards. Primary fire swipes with the Daggar, Secondary fire discharges the shot. The Cut Throat Cutlass is wielded by all classes of the Cut Throat team as a primary Melee weapon.

Next we have a preview of another Player Model that will be used in Mist Modification, the Cursed Pirates Elite class.

The Cursed Pirates Elite is the only class that's knows how to use the Harpoon Gun effectively. As Mist Mod evolves, more Elite select weapons will be available to the class.

We would like to put one last call out for a skilled UV Mapper.

Requirements:
  • Experience with 3DS Max and/or Softimage XSI

  • Understanding of how to unwrap models into a UVMap format.

  • Previous mod experience with the Half-Life engine prefered.

Thats all from the captains quarters today mates, stay tuned for more information on Mist Mod.

Interview: Computer Games Magazine
Computer Games Magazine just conducted an interview with me about NS 3.0, NS on the HL2 engine and Unknown Worlds.

Read the interview here, then give feedback here!
Computer Games - First, Natural Selection has been one of the more popular mods for Half-Life. Have you been surprised at the longevity of the mod?

Charlie Cleveland - We've worked hard to continue updating it and growing it, so I'm not surprised it's still going strong. Most game developers aren't allowed to keep working on a game after release, but that's a luxury mod teams take for granted. We have big plans for NS so we're just getting started!

Computer Games - Even though Half-Life 2 has been released, work still continues on the original Natural Selection mod. What can you tell us about the content additions that will be put into the upcoming 3.0 version?

Charlie Cleveland - Probably the biggest content addition is the addition of third-person reload animations. It's great knowing when a marine is reloading, so you can drop off the ceiling and snack on him. Because this is a final release (not beta), we've spent a lot of time on many smaller tweaks for consistency and polish (sprite and sound changes, updated models, etc.). We're also hoping to see NS fully integrated into Steam, under the "My Games" list.

Due to some communication issues involving spam filters, we unfortunately ran into a billing problem with our webhost, leading to the site appearing suspended for a few days. The issues have been resolved and the site should now be fully operational. Sorry for the inconvenience.
