Source: Kingdoms Collide

Here’s another treat for all you Kingdoms Collide fans: an overview of the different character models and some in-game footage of the magic system in use. Since Kingdoms doesn’t work on a traditional class-based system, the team had to find a way to visually display what kind of loadout you would be playing with. Depending on the equipment and abilites you choose to enhance your character’s appearance changes to reflect those strengths, and weaknesses, to others in the game.

This one deals with all the fire elemental spells you’ll be able to choose from. Each spell element has been made to serve a different tactical purpose; the fire group is focused mainly on increasing a player’s ability to hurt and damage (whereas the Ice spells are more useful for supporting teammates, you’ll see more of this later). Enjoy.

Source: Kontroll

Hello there!

I made a short video clip about the Service tunnel map from the Alpha-1 version. Remember, Alpha-1 means we learn how to use Hammer level editor, (and scripting) of the Source engine ;). Some used item in this video are a placeholder model.

(Video editing is new to me that's why it has a bad quality :()

Other progress news in short:

  • We made our first test NPC modell, wich has the ValveBiped skeleton for animating (under 3DS MAX, because i not prefer XSI, its too complicated for me, as a Mac after Windows :P). Making a working custom NPC model was a great momentum for me (even the weightmaps are a bit buggy now), because I never works with character modelling, and animation.
  • I wrote the Player's diary about what he live trough at Kontroll's world. At first he waked up in the morning, traveling to his office, but in the tunnel the metro get's on fire, and he must escape this stalemate situation. After a long way in forbinnen service tunnels, he's been save by an unknow person, who takes him to the "deeper grounds". After that the real adventure begins :).
  • The gameplay what we planning (whitout any programmer support) will be similar to HL2. Puzzles-Action-Puzzles-Story and so on.

After all, we works on the mod's technical background, because there is still a lot to learn about Source engine :).

Keep tuned, and keep tracking !

Thx ;)

PS.:

Misinformation about the mod:

  • No, its not will be the remake of the movie called Kontroll.
  • No, Kontroll is not a sweedish mod. We are hungarian modders ;).

***** SPOILER ALERT *****

Kotaku has found some infro from GateStop regarding portal:

Coming this holiday. Portal 2 is the sequel to 2007's Game of the Year and draws from the award-winning formula of innovative game play, story, and music that earned the original over 70 industry accolades. Features single and multiplayer co-op modes. The single-player portion of Portal 2 introduces a cast of dynamic new characters, a host of fresh puzzle elements, and a much larger set of devious test chambers. Players will explore never-before-seen areas of the Aperture Science Labs and be reunited with GLaDOS, the occasionally murderous computer companion who guided them through the original game. The game's two-player cooperative mode features its own entirely separate campaign with a unique story, test chambers, and two new player characters. This new mode forces players to reconsider everything they thought they knew about portals. Success will require them to not just act cooperatively, but to think cooperatively.

This more than confirms our belief that Portal 2 will have coop.

Kotaku has also found more information on Portal 2's Bad guy.

Cave Johnson, the boss of Aperture who was dead in Portal, will be the principle antagonist of this sequel. How? We'll get to that.

In the game, Johnson, described as an amiable self-made billionaire who refuses to accept the responsibility of his power, starts off as a sort of sidekick to the player but then he starts to lose his grip on humanity as the story progresses. According to an open casting call we received in 2008, at some point in the game, after Johnson has isolated himself from the people around him and lost touch with reality, he becomes the main bad guy.

There is a "megathread" over at facepunch about Portal. "Max of SD2" has assembeled all the information about Portal/Portal 2 obtained so far form the SSTV embeded in the audio, the BBS ASCII art, as well as some other interesting tidbits.

There has been a lot of speculation in the last few days on if Steam is going to OSX. There definitely seems to be some evidence to support this. According to Steam Friends there are over 100 games on Steam that have native mac support. Valve recently released a beta program for a new version of steam which uses WebKit instead of Internet Explorer. This is a rather bold move coming from a studio whose founders used to work for Microsoft.

Here is what has been found so far:

  • OSX Window Graphics
  • OSX Tray Icon
  • AN OSX.menu file in the resources/menus/ folder

More information will follow as it is verified.

Source: Firearms Source

Hi Firearms: Source Community! Last news update we mentioned we are releasing this year, and we are sticking to it! For some exciting news, we would like to let you all know Firearms: Source is now running on the Orange Box engine, thanks to our new programmer Mazor; a familiar face from the original Firearms. Now we will be able to take advantage of everything the Source engine has to offer for future release candidates. You may be wondering, "why did you do an Orange Box port now?" Well, unfortunately we had some really deep rooted bugs that were neglected whole new features were implemented, making the code very hard to debug and clean up. The more and more we examined the issue, the more compelling the argument became for moving to the Orange Box engine. So, as said before, we will still be able to stick to our release schedule because thankfully, we already have the game balance down for what we would like to be released with RC1, so its as simple as moving the functioning clean code over, optimizing old code, and leaving behind the bugs. So as a reward for your patience, we have some new renders of our M18A1 Claymore and Gerber Gator Machete, and an updated atmosphere for PS_Snowstorm, as well as a newly updated ModDB page with the a customized FAS theme.

Firearms on Half-Life wouldn't be what it was without the M18A1 Claymore Antipersonnel Mine. It was one of the defining weapons that set it apart from other Half-Life mods, really showing its true military colors. For these reasons, we felt it absolutely necessary to include it in Firearms: Source. If you are an FA veteran, then you should remember how it functions, but for those new to the mod or in need of a refresher, you can check out the Pro-Tip section of the Firearms Source Manual for the fiendish particulars. The Firearms: Source M18A1 Claymore model was textured by Racer445. We also have the Gerber Patrol Machete, which is a new addition to the Firearms arsenal. We decided that one of the areas that seemed to get very little attention in the original Firearms was a wider range of melee weapons. Without your trusty blade, what would you do when you ran completely out of ammo while staring down your terrified enemy in a firefight or creeping up behind hapless victims? The Gerber Gator Machete was modeled by Naota, textured by Dr. Hubbler, and animated by Thisismyname09.

As mentioned above, our Moddb page has been updated to fit the true FAS theme, so make sure you head on over there to check it out! For those who are in the Desura beta, we will also be making sure to release on their distribution platform. We really appreciate the community coming together to support Firearms: Source, please post on our forum and stop by our IRC channel #firearms-source @ irc.gamesurge.net to lend us some feedback. (Yes, I do expect some "Release the game already" comments). Thanks again for being so loyal! We will also get our testers working on another tester video once the Orange Box version is feeling good.

Zips over at CSNation has a rather lengthy and in-depth report on the latest Portal update including images from the SSTV (Slow scan TV) feed and ASCII art from the BBS system that was found.

Valve is either hinting towards some new release/update or is just messing with us. Either way this has been a fun update. Have you found all 26 radios yet?
