Source The Battle Grounds
Busy day here, today. A quick summary of the news before I go into detail: BG 1.2.1 RC1 released to those who wish to test, Battle for Colonies announced, Announcements now open to commenting on and Front End for the announcements on the forum.

Firstly, The Battle Grounds 1.2.1 RC 1 has been release to anyone and everyone willing to test development builds of BG. RC 1 means we are at feature complete stage of 1.2.1 and we are now onto final bug fixing and balancing for 1.2.1. We welcome everyone to join us at tests which will become frequent over the next few days. You can find details about how to get RC1 in this thread -
http://www.bgmod.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=5024 along with instructions on how to install development builds in general.

I was sent a very interesting pm on the forums yesterday regarding a BFE style campaign for Battle Grounds setup by some BFE players. It is called Battle for the Colonies.
Here is the information I received about the campaign:

In the spirit of Battle For Europe, Ferg, Supreme_Killa, Nameless Soldier, and Proof_of_death of BFE are creating a campaign for Battle Grounds called Battle for the Colonies. For those not familiar with BFE, a campaign is a tournament where you pick one of two teams (British or Colonist in this
case) and fight over the course of many battles for control of the colonies. Each team will have their own Commanding officers, their own commander in chief deciding on battles, and their own strategies and organization. It's a great way to bring the whole battle grounds community together to play each other. If you like Battle Grounds but want to play more seriously than it's done on the pubs, then BFC is for you.

Right now, the four are doing this campaign independently, but if you guys show enough interest, BFC will be picked up as an official MFOTS campaign.
They are still working on registration, but check out battleforthecolonies.com, head over to the forums and the rules for more information, and stay tuned. Registration and test scrimmages are coming soon.

Check our Battle for the Colonies here http://www.battleforthecolonies.com/

The final two items aren't quite as important, but forum regular will appreciate them. Firstly, the announcement forum is now open to replies.
This means you can now comment on any and every news item we post their. We want to encourage more feedback from you on the things we think you will find interesting or important that are going on in the world of BG. Finally we have setup a news like display for all announcements on the forums, which takes you directly to the news item you want to respond to. This can be found here - http://www.bgmod.com/forums/frontend.php. This page also contains other useful links, so if you are looking for the latest community news then this page will help you.

We are close to 1.2.1 now bear with us or help us test and we will be there soon.

The Junkyard Corps team have released some renders of the Remote Explosive Weapon By Duracell.

Here's some info and pic's

One of the highest technology level weapons has been completed, The Remote Explosive. The explosive can be set off remotely as the name suggest or it can be set with a timer. This weapon has been pulled together from old canisters, a control pad from an old security panel and wires. Put it all together and you have the strongest explosive in Junkyard Corps. The weapon will be available to both teams. This weapon is part of the new tech tree which will be uploaded soon.

They have also uploaded the tech tree so you can see what the teams will be able to build.

DoDHQ have a quote from Waldo talking about Day of Defeat 1.1 and Steam.

In a nut shell, you need to get on to using Steam if you haven't already. Basically from now on, all updates to DoD will only be on Steam. So if you want to play 1.1, play new maps, updates to old maps, etc. you'll need to be on Steam.

I know Steam's not been the smoothest thing around for everyone, but you'll find many people have figured it out and are using it with success now. Sure, some people still have problems, and people still have questions, but it's only getting better IMO.

Don't know where to start with Steam? My first suggestion is that you go into our own Steam Forum right here on the DoD website. Lots of info on how to get started, how to fix common problems, etc.

What should you expect from DoD on Steam in the coming days, weeks, and months? Here are some definite things, plus a few things we've talked about...

- Updates (bug fixes, gameplay tweaks, etc.) to existing 1.0 maps
- Updated sounds (louder, better, more BANG!)
- New maps
- 1.1 with new features, bugs fixed, 9 way blending for player animations, and more!)
- The return of some old classic maps (Zafod, Koln, Cherbourg, and more maybe?)
- Bug fixes for things that may come up in DoD that we don't discover until it's been played for a while

Steam's the way it's gonna be here in the future. With Steam we'll be able to break away from the "release one big update once in a blue moon" to "release many smaller updates with more frequency". Basically that will keep DoD both up to date (bugs fixed, new improvements added) but also fresh. Fresh as in you'll be seeing new things more often.

When Steam + DoD get rolling, it's gonna be unstoppable!
