These changes are for the better advancement of Steam. I look forward to being able to use Steam at LAN parties now. I know this has been a dilemma in the past. This is why Steam did not update last week.
There will be a number of significant Steam events in the coming days.

The first will be a long-awaited Steam client release. The highlights from this release will be:
  • Offline Play

  • Account validation (via e-mail)

  • A new Half-Life 2 hardware survey

  • Support for purchasing games through Steam

There are a number of other small changes along with the ones listed above, as well as a number of changes planned out past the launch of Counter-Strike: Condition Zero.

Hey man, just wanted to let you know that RolePlay Annihilation ( www.rpa-mod.net / Half-Life II modification) has a new contest running.

-------------
You play the role of an Abalos Architect (which really, means one of our level designers creative talents..)

Premise:
- Design a building concept for the ACANTHUS Solar Power Plant located in the industrial sector of Abalos. This power plant, although not the sole energy source for Abalos, powers most sectors in the daytime. It uses large interconnected photovoltaic cells spanning across a solar panel to convert the suns rays directly into energy. We need you to design a concept for this solar power plant using whatever means necessary, a top and left view would be preferable.

Rules:
- One entry per person
- Submission must be in .jpg form, no larger then 800x600
- The contest will last thirty (30) days
- The winner will be chosen by you, through a large poll (depending on the number of entries)

--------
This is a good way for the community to partake in the development of this modification, by designing the Acanthus Solar Power Plant.

The winning entry will be included in game, the designer will be one of the first people to beta-test, and their name will go into the 'special thanks'
development section of the modification credits.

Another small update is on its way: RC4 is almost complete, just one code bug and some map compiles are left before the already 4th release candidate of The Battle Grounds 1.2.2 is released to the public. 1.2.2 will contain 2 more maps than originally planned. Though Saratoga as shown in this newspost is a BG 1.3 map. Notice the particle system powered leaves flying through view of this wet and foggy autumn day.

Kent, UK – 23rd February 2004 – The Thunderbolt Network is pleased to announce that Clan Recruiter will be launching on March 8th 2004. The new website will help online gaming clans to find players and players to find clans.

“Clan Recruiter is the first website of its kind and we’re confident that it’s going to be a big hit with gamers,” said Philip Morton, director of The Thunderbolt Network. “We had planned to launch on March 1st, but we have taken the decision to delay it by one week, allowing us to fully test the site.”

In only 14 days time, clans won’t have to use forums, chat rooms or game servers to find new recruits any longer. To find out more, visit www.clanrecruiter.net.

A new map for the Afrikakorps serie is in progress. There are some beta screenshots below to check out. The theme setting is kinda different then the other maps. At the moment the maps has two different settings, it's possible this going to end up being two maps instead of one.

The new Steam Games website is now online! We developed the new steam because our steam sections on here were getting busy. We decided to launch another site just for Steam related stuff. The new site is totally game related and Steam community based.

For your convience, if you already had an account on HL Source, you will also have the same account on the new Steam Games website (so that you don't have to re-signup).

Thanks going out to:

- Greg Coomer & Erik Johnson at Valve
- Valve Software for letting us use their Steam logo
- The HL Radio staff for helping with the site design and content
- All the HL Source members!

Checkout Steam Games!

Front Line Force v1.8 RELEASED
This is *NOT* Defiance People. Feb 18 2004, 07:20 PM

Thats right, 1.8 is finally out.

frontline2.com server has been updated to the full release.

Check the downloads page for download information!

FILE MIRRORS: If you can Mirror the files please let us know by posting a reply to this thread, or toss a link up in #frontline on irc.gamesurge.net !! (we don't have any mirrors at the moment, due to the amount of time that's passed!)

To settle some confusion: 1.8 is NOT Defiance.

VERSION INFORMATION
  • Updated for Steam Compatibility

  • added Defiance Hitoutput

  • cl_hitoutput 0 = off

  • cl_hitoutput 1 = screen & console

  • cl_hitoutput 2 = screen only

  • cl_hitoutput 3 = console only

  • HLTV / First Person Spectator

  • Prone Bug Fixed (no more door prone or hiding in capture points)

  • Hit-Boxes Fixed; Player models are edited 1.1 and 1.3a hybrid player models with 9way blending removed.

  • Reduced the amount of time it takes for bullet spread to return to center

  • accuracy improved for all guns a little (has to do with the helmet system)

  • Re-Wrote bullet fly-by code, the "whiz" sound only happens now when a bullet passes by your head.

  • made all the menus transparent and enabled the observer "move around" system

  • moved joins and "remaining health of killer" into the talk area so it shows up in steam

  • changed "remaining health of killer" to say "remaining health of <killername>"

  • remaining health message doesn't come up if you kill yourself in any fashion (suicide, grenade, ...)

  • changed the menu system so you can change class/choose weapons at the end of a round

  • added armor to team say and radio messages

  • round respawn bug fixed, you cannot die if you respawn at end of round

  • added additional defiance awards: Best Sniper, Best Recon/Assault/Support, and Grenade Diver

  • added defiance capturing sound

  • replaced most of the weapon models with frontline tactics weapon models (the ones that some of the defiance versions were based off of)

  • re-enabled duck jumping. pink hated it, i like it, because it becomes a pain to jump on boxes sometimes. - especially when there's limited headroom.

  • re-wrote the stamina a bit; doesn't use messages anymore, instead sends the stamina value to the client via regular netcode updates; moved the stamina removal code from the server-side player object into player movement shared object so that stamina is removed _after_ the player makes the jump. The net effect is that each jump is a little higher than it used to be.

  • players capturing can see the enemy on the radar

  • put defiance m4 skin on the m4 model

  • changed grenade explosion function. Now checks around the players box to see if the player can be hit (no more hiding behind table legs!!)

  • added secondary attack to mk23 and beretta to toggle between automatic and semi-automatic (like this version_info.txt says way down below for v0.43)

  • added SOME of the HLTV overviews, the rest will follow eventually

-- Map Changes:
removed:
f
  • lf_pano, flf_rmego, flf_cheyenne, flf_chion, flf_cyprus, flf_ebonysword, flf_qcity

  • added:
  • flf_dcity, flf_heatwave, flf_fox (1.1), flf_deep6 (1.1), flf_winternuke

Ok, it's been a while since there's been a post but progress has continued to move along on Survival of The Fittest. Our programmers, ICR and Sharp are undertaking several large projects that are integral parts of the final game. The website is being updated, with new media and some minor bug fixes as well. A new gun model was finished, the H&H Elephant gun, a high powered hunting rifle along with a wallpaper for our fans. Here are the gun and the wallpaper(which is 800x600 as of now btw.)
