Source: Azzkiker from HL2Files.com via mailMapping for Half-Life 2 has not really begun yet, since the current SDK only really works for Counter-Strike: Source. Well Azzkiker from HL2Files.com brings us the solution. He informs me that he has put online a tutorial on how to get Hammer 4.0 working for Half-Life 2. You can check out the tutorial here at HL2Files.com.
Source: Ferdi Willemse from Border Patrol via mail / PlanetHalfLifeFerdi Willemse from the mod Border Patrol e-mailed me with the information that there is a Multi Player in Half-Life 2. It's not completely done and several things don't work right, but still it's a start. Since the mail was in Dutch I'll post the essential info on how to get it started here:
Use the following command to get the MP of Half-Life 2:C:\\Steam\\Steam.exe Steam.exe -applaunch 220 -game MP +map d1_trainstation_04 +maxplayers 12 - console -developer 1 -heapsize 512000 -ip jouw.ip.hier -port 27016 -sv_lan 0Also HL2World reported the Half-Life 2 Multi Player news, here some words from them:
Here's how: net_startsv_lan 0deathmatch 1maxplayers (whatever you want)map (mapname)restartIt will add you to the master server and it works. I know, it looks like the leak, but I assure you this is the retail HL2.The full post, including a screen and test map, can be found here. Thanks to Ferdi for pointing this out.
Source: PlanetHalfLife / Half-Life FalloutBoth Boomtown and GameSpy have put online their reviews of Half-Life 2. Both the reviews bring you good information on the game and are filled with great looking screenshots. So if you're still doubtful about getting the game, or if you have time to kill until you have the game, then go and read these two reviews. The Boomtown review can be found here, and GameSpy's review here.
Source: PlanetHalfLifeShameless from Pure Mhz has put online a soundpack for Windows, which will transform you PC into a Combine Soldier shouting orders and what not at you. So if you would love a PC taking back at you in Half-Life 2 style then go and get this soundpack right here.
Source: HalfLife2.netA lot of students in America and other colleges in the world are unable to play our beloved game. This is because many collage networks have certain ports blocked to prevent viruses from getting in, and other things from happening. Most of the time it's of course a good thing, but sadly Steam also needs those ports to authenticate Half-Life 2:
Many Colleges, Universities, Schools and Large Corporations are now actively blocking ports to prevent virus, trojan and Internet worm problems as well as to prevent misuse of their networks. If you are having problems and you are on one of these complex networks that are intentionally blocking ports required for Steam to work then you may not be able to connect to Steam and play. The authentication is a great thing for stopping warez using persons but sadly it's also giving problems for others that have bought the game. Time will tell if a solution is going to be given. For more info check the site of Steam.
Source: HL2Files.comChris Bokitch from the VERC Collective reports that the full version of the Half-Life 2 SDK will be released soon:
It would be an understatement to say that there's been a lot of interest expressed about the forthcoming release of the full Source SDK. Well, the time draws near! I'm not going to mention a specific day, but certainly the word "soon" is appropriate here. The upcoming release will include Half-Life 2 mapping support and additional sample maps, support for cubemaps, and the mod source code.Just a little while longer and then we can truly begin with the modding and mapping. You can read it all here at the VERC Collective.
