Source: PlanetHalfLifeIGN: Gear has put online a great and detailed article that compares the different versions of DirectX with Half-Life 2. Here some words:
While anyone reading this article is sure to have a newer card than a TNT, there are still plenty of people currently running the game on a GeForce 4, RADEON 8500 or any number of other aging cards. We see mail everyday wondering how well the game will look on these older cards, or if someone with a GeForce FX 5900 should pick up a cheap RADEON 9600 Pro to run the game in DirectX 9.0, even if the framerate difference will be negligible over the 5900's DirectX 8.1 rendering. This article is for you folks. If you're wondering what graphical features you're missing out on, or would like to see how much better your X800 XT looks than someone's 8500, read on. We've taken a boatload of screenshots to compare the four main rendering types, DirectX 7.0, DirectX 8.0, DirectX 8.1 and DirectX 9.0, and put them side-by-side for your viewing pleasure.A great article, which can really help you picking out a new Graphics Card. You can read the full article here at IGN: Gear.

Source: PlanetHalfLifeCounter-Hack is holding a Design Contest for their upcoming merchandising:
It's official. CH has received an offer for a limited production of Counter-Hack merchandise. We will start with the basics, so the first item will be a CH t-shirt. Now we could just go down the usual route by borrowing the site's logo and the slogan for making the print. But since CH is a community based site, why not the let the people decide? Submit your designs/logos/quotes/ideas and they may very well end up as part of the final product. Let the madness begin by following this link to the official contest thread. So head on over to Counter-Hack and join the contest.

Source: HalfLife2.netEuroGamer has put online it's Half-Life 2 review. Here a small part of the review:
If Half-Life 2 achieves one single thing, it's to put into sharp focus how far gaming has come, and more specifically how far behind some of its competitors in the FPS genre really are. Some doubted that the Source engine could match the technical brilliance elsewhere, but it has not only surpassed anyone else's achievements, it has done so without forcing people to invest in ludicrously expensive hardware. Reports persist from amazed gamers with mid-range set ups that have been blown away by how well the game runs on their systems. That Half Life 2 looks more convincing, more understated, more realistic, more interactive and definitely more stylish than its peers yet manages it with far lower overheads is not only an impressive feat, but commercially a masterstroke.EuroGamer gives the game a score of 10/10 and you can read the reasons, well they should be clear to anyone by now, the game just rocks, here at EuroGamer.
