The CPL announced today that it will hold a $50,000 Counter-Strike 1.6 tournament at the Cyberathlete Extreme Summer Championships to be hosted July 6 - July 10, 2005 at the Gaylord Texan Resort in Grapevine, Texas.

While the CPL is committed to Counter-Strike:Source, a large number of Counter-Strike teams remain loyal to CS 1.6 and have asked for an opportunity to compete at the summer event. The CPL realizes that many of those teams have given years of patronage to its events and has responded by offering them a CS 1.6 tournament.

Registration for the CS 1.6 tournament will open at 10:00 AM Central on Tuesday, April 19, 2005, and will be limited to 64 teams. Registration will close as soon as the 64 team limit has been met.

The cash prize distribution will be as follows:
1st place $15,000
2nd place $10,500
3rd place $7,000
4th place $4,500
5th place $3,000
6th place $2,500
7th place $1,500
8th place $1,000
9th - 12th $750
13th - 16th $500

Commencing on Tuesday, April 19, 2005 at 10:00 AM Central teams may register for this tournament, on a first-come, first-served basis only. The official CPL registration page is located at www.thecpl.com/register/.
