Beta 1.4 coming May 13, 2005 to a server near you! In the meantime, here's a small taste of what we've been working on.

A look at some map work

We've also got 4 new game modes implemented.

Stopwatch CTF
Teams take turns attacking and defending and race to capture the flag faster than the last team

One Flag CTF
Teams have to pick up the neutral flag and run it into the enemy base to score

Domination CTF
Teams battle for control over the neutral flag to try to hold it the longest amount of time

CaptureStrike CTF
Players start with almost all the weapons and once killed will stay dead until a team is eliminated or a capture occurs.

What else have you got?
We've also added a list of chat macros that you can use to give your team vital information quickly such as your health, armor, weapon, ammo, etc. We've got a slew of new cvars to help configure your server even more, including a mercy rule, optional overtime, and more! We've also got at least one other addition that we haven't mentioned yet.

Release Party
We'll be having a release party on our IRC channel (#hl2ctf on irc.gamesurge.net) at 8pm EST on May 13 to celebrate the release of Beta 1.4. Hope to see you there!

Early Interviews and Reviews
If you just cannot wait and want to find out more right now, here is an Interview with No Fear Gaming and a Review by Dan Mattia at Game Overdrive...

If any of you out there are like me, and just don’t like the feel of the 1.4 MP5, or just want that different something to make the game feel better, have we a weapon for you!

That’s right, all of you out there who have been waiting for a P90 since it was first shown pre release, your prayers have been answered. We would like to thank BioTek, Talon, Dreadus, Fuse, Cream, and Destroyer for all the hard work they put into reviving this addition to HI. Also a thanks goes out to Epsilon for hosting the file, and Bic-Ball for the moral support.

So, what are you waiting for? Hurry up and grab that P90!

Initial Alpha Testing has begun, and so far everything seems to be running smoothly. No major problems have appeared, and only a few bugs have been found, none of them taking more than a few seconds to fix.

We finally have some screenshots to show! While we are quite aware it looks a bit silly to have a Counter-Strike terrorist running around in these fantasy environments, we hope you can see and understand the direction in which we are heading.

The first of these shots shows the chain lightning spell in action. When an opponent is targetted with this spell, lightning will strike down from above dealing heavy damage to the player. If there are any other opponents within range of the strike, the lightning will proceed to target these players aswell. This spell does not work if the initial target is not directly below the sky.

The second screenshot displays the grappling hook in action, an item that is only available to the thief class. The grappling hook allows the thief to navigate the map more easily and grants them access to higher areas. The grappling hook has other uses, such as latching onto items and pulling them in.

Fanatic's map, sh_jungle, is displayed in the third screenshot. While this map is a work in progress, the layout and structure is excellent.

The final screenshot shows the werewolf in action. The werewolf is a creature the sorceror class is able to transform into via a high level spell. It is capable of very high speeds, and can detect the heat of an opponent through solid objects such as walls.

We are looking to expand our team, so if you have any talents you'd like to demonstrate (whether it be modelling, animating, artistic or mapping), we'd love to hear from you. Drop us a message in the forums.

Many thanks goes out to Fanatic for his great map, and Hadyn for his excellent artwork.

Source: Mech Mod
The past couple of months have been very slow, and could be referred to as the "calm before the storm" in the development world of MechMod. School, university, work and World of Warcraft have all kept a lot of our team members tied down. But things should improve for the better during Summer as we plan to do most of our core work after the semester ends for many students who are on the MechMod development team.

Development in April mostly consisted of concept art, some skinning, 2D artwork (textures), and primarily programming. Jason has completed a complex parser which we will be using for storing various server-side data in plain text files. A base structure system has also been completed by grOOvy, which is used for holding data and applying it for building mecha structures ingame.

MechMod has also been recruiting quite a few team members recently. We would like to welcome aboard barde (music artist), TekniK (skinner) and Davidskiwan (concept artist) - as they are the newest additions to our team. Hope you take this mod far and have a good time along the way!

Time for a bit of media; SSJS has been working on some custom skins (bonus skins available for each preset class available via a cheat code ingame) and has also recently completed the design for our mech customization menus for the PA and TN factions (which Jason will shortly implement using VGUI2):

Also, here is a concept mecha created by Davidskiwan:

Keep watching our homepage and forums, we often post updates in our dev journals before the main page. Also, development might be slow until the end of May, but will take a jump start once the vacations start - so look forward to some good updates in the near future.

Also a very Happy Birthday to Pcjoe, who has just turned 18 today (8 May). Best wishes from all of the team, joe. :-)

There are two birthdays in the house today. Today is the day Pcjoe turns 18, and ESF beta 1.2 turns 1! Wow, I can't believe it's already been a year. Time really does fly. Congratulations on your 18th birthday Pcjoe!

DJ-Ready has put together a little flash comic to celebrate beta 1.2's birthday.

"Who ate all my cookies?!"

I bet all of you who applied for beta testing are wondering who the lucky ten are? The applications have been sorted through and the final ten have been chosen. The selection process included hand picking five people we felt really stuck out in the community. These individuals frequently contribute to the community. The second set of candidates were chosen at random from pool of good applications. These individuals demonstrated that they have qualities we are looking for on their applications. It was really hard narrowing the applications down to ten people. If you weren't chosen, thank you for applying and better luck next time.

Hello all, since there hasn't been a news update around here lately, I thought I would give you some updates about whats going on behind the scenes of the DoD Editing Center.

First thing im sure a few of you are interested in is the new site (DoD Editing Center: Source). Overall its coming out very well and is nearly complete. We will be launching it in the near future, so keep your eyes peeled at www.dodecsource.com (YES we do finally have a domain name for the new site!.)

Around here at the DoDECNS(Non-source) things have been quiet lately, but we are still comitted to bringing you the latest updates when they are available. Speaking of which, I added a few maps tonight which should keep you busy and there are a few more updates schedualed for this week, so keep an eye out!

That about sums up whats going on around here, as always comments are welcome (although if you post off topic comments I'LL SEND EZ TO YOUR HOUSE TO BEAT YOU SENSELESS).

BTW heres a personal tip, check the forums for some "interesting content" :)

Source: No More Room in Hell
Lead Music Composer, Rich 'Beckett' Douglas, has created many inspirational musical compositions for "No More Room in Hell" and will continue to compose new background music for each map we have planned. Whether it's a chilling soundtrack inspired by the horror movie "The Thing", for our tribute map "Outpost 31", or an orchestral soundtrack that might very well have been suited to any number of 1960's horror movies, Beckett has composed many different soundtracks with either haunting melodies or gripping action sequences in mind.

To give you all a taste of the music that "No More Room in Hell" will have in store for you when finally released, we have opened the Soundtrack section of the website where you will be able to download and listen to a variety of diverse soundtracks which Beckett has composed to date for the mod.

Also, I would like to take this moment to introduce a new member to the "No More Room in Hell" team, our newest voice actor, Austin 'Shifty155' Snell, whose past voice acting experience includes working on another zombie horror mod, Hold-Out. With his addition to the team a new facet has been added to both the quality and range of dialog that will be employed for both player and non-player characters.

A followup newspost to our local one last week.
Our weapons modelers have finished up their latest models to fill Iron Grip with resistance arms!

We are also doing great on porting models for Half Life 2 ingame use. However, some minor errors prevented us from giving you some ingame snapshots.

We are still looking for skilled 2d artists to assist us in the creation of GUI sprites. Dont hesitate and email us at info@irongrip.net
