Source: Off Limits
Off Limits celebrates its second birthday, so a very happy B to the rest of the crew. Two years ago the idea behind Off Limits and the decision to make a HL2 mod out of it were born in some random irc channel on Quakenet. Two years have passed, and I'm proud to say we've built a dedicated team, talented beyond what we've ever hoped and ever working to get this mod out there. To celebrate this, we're showing you some of the media we've been working on, and some screens of our internal alpha v0.3. Oh, and we've baked a cake, ofcourse.

It's about time we showed off some of Coffeeman's work. With the impressive resumé he has as a character animator, our player animations are probably not much of a challenge for him. He did a great job creating fluid animations from scratch, so take a peek at some of the animations you'll soon be playing with:

Anyone else curious as to what Coffeeman could to to our Alien?

Onto some of our new models! First we got the Yamaha XJR-1300, almost the only proof that I actually *do* something for the mod (besides coding, but hey, that's hard to show off, ey kronos!. I modeled this sweet bike quite a while ago; getting one of those is still on my "things to do in life"-list, but in the meantime I'll settle for driving it in the mod. Yup, it'll be driveable. I was lucky to have simon skin it for me, as you can see it's becoming a real beauty (it's still WiP).

Then we have two variants of a map prop simon modeled and skinned, a flatbed trailer carrying a broken komatsu, and a regular trailer.

Of course, no media update without some new weapon renders. Reason skinned three versions of the Beretta Target, and we held a little poll on our forums; this is the winning skin:

Jake has been "promoted" (read: we make him work harder), he's now organizing everything weapon-related. We're gonna have some changes, we're going to upgrade most of our weapons to higher-poly versions and do some balance changes as well wrt. the arsenal of both teams. We're also very busy developing internal alpha's. I have to mention kronos here, as he's a tremendous help in the coding department. Currently we're developing alpha v0.4 which should get released in the next week or two. We're gonna keep development internal until we have reached beta stage, then we'll see which way we go. Here are some screenshots of our alpha, showing off the maps and the minimap system (the thing in the top right... it's going to be similar to BF's minimap system, will also be used for spawn selection). The featured maps are ol_stack by simon, ol_damnation and ol_undersiege by purerage (the last one is absolutely *huge*):

Well, that's about it for now. We're living up to a reputation as a crew that doesn't do PR all that much, but rest assured it's only because we're too busy working on the mod!. If you'd like to help us out with that and have some talent in gamedev, feel free to contact us at maarten@off-limits.be or simon.wt@pandora.be . Mappers are very welcome atm, but we value other help as well.

After last month's display of one of the many forms of armour combatants may don in our title, we thought we'd start displaying some of the additional protective equipment available in TLP: SoW.
In this update, we present the smallest form of shield crafted from Sir Phoenixx's workshop: the Buckler. Please visit the Equipment section of this website to learn more about this tiny shield and other arms & armour or click on the image below for a detailed view of it.

We've also updated our vast arsenal with two more swords. These two-handed weapons nearly complete the entirety of melee-based arms available within TLP: SoW. The Two-Handed Sword and the Flamberge have always been classical favorites of this genre and have been included to add even more variety and strategy to our innovative combat system. Click on the thumbnails below to see larger images of these beautiful instruments of death. To observe the myriad weapons already cooling from Sir Phoenixx's forge, visit the Equipment section of this website.

We'd also like to welcome our newest member; TheKeyci, to our team. His amazing experience with previous Source-based maps are a greatly welcomed addition to this project. We are always looking for talented and dedicated members to participate in this project's development and appreciate the invaluable services these skilled volunteers render. If you believe you have what it takes to fulfill any of our currently high-demand positions, please don't hesitate to contact us.

Lastly; more character concepts have been added to our Characters section. These images have been amassed throughout the early stages of pre-production and "in-game" imagery will soon follow. Minute changes throughout the course of development will allow viewers to compare and contrast the conceptual renderings with their final incarnations.

The recent flood of gamers to Dystopia's web server kicked the team into over drive to put the finishing touches on the teaser video. This 1 minute purely in game video shows off our special flavour of cyberpunk action. This video was created from demos recorded during our nightly playtest sessions and features a backing track created by our very own Graincloud.

We're confident that after watching the video you'll have a good idea of what Dystopia is all about. It includes footage of nearly every implant and weapon as well as footage from both the Real World and CyberSpace areas of Dystopia.

The video is encoded with bink, which means there's no hassle with codecs. It's 24 meg zipped up. You can download it from these locations:

Source: Jedi Timeline
But here we are, another lovely Jedi:Timeline update! It's been a good couple of weeks since you've seen anything interesting, largely because I've been on holiday of all things! However, I'm back and ready to go, and once again we find ourselves admiring the wonderful Hash, along with Chems. they've been doing a fair bit of work for us over the past few weeks, and all of it has been top notch!

So, without any further ado, here we go: two more (sadly unskinned) models for all you Star Wars geeks out there to admire! The models we have on show today are;

The DH-17 Blaster Rifle, sadly unskinned right now - but hopefully it'll be fully completey before long. I think this one was modeled by good ol' Chems - but i have to admit that i've forgotten and can't get in touch with Chems to ask. Embarrasing, and very stupid I know - but what can you do?

And the Blastech A280, modeled by our lovely Hash. And, happily i know he's working on a skin for it as we speak! So it shouldn't be long before a full on version is finished, for your viewing pleasure.

And, on a different note; As I'm sure many of you have noticed, it has been quite a while since I started the Join Up thread, on the forums. I happily feel it's been more than long enough now, and am going to start going through all the 'applications' finding out who I would like to e-mail, who I am interested in etc. So, some of you can expect e-mails, before long.

Once again, apologies for a large delay for this update; but real life, as it were, has been getting on top of me lately.

Enjoy.

We're happy that the recently released Counter-Strike: Source maps de_inferno and de_port have been so well received, and along those lines it's time to start talking about what's coming next. This week, we have a couple of screenshots from the remake of the classic Counter-Strike map cs_assault, which is now set in downtown Chicago.

We always like to keep everyone abreast of the games the MOD community is working on, so here is a list of a few we're keeping our eye on:

Plan of Attack, Pirates, Vikings, and Knights 2, Sven Co-Op 2, Sourceball, and Dystopia

All of these projects are at varying stages of development, ranging from the concept phase to having a playable game ready for you to download from their site. It's cool to follow a MOD team from their initial concept through the eventual release, as you generally get to see a side of game development that is somewhat hidden with traditional game development companies.

Source: Hostile Intent
Finally news of Hostile Intent: Phoenix Rising. It feels good to bring you fans some news on its development. So without any more delay, and loss of manhood due to tears, let's get to it.

MasterMind has released a first build of HI:PR to the testers, and we have been playing round after round of it. Talon has compiled a number of HI models for use on the source engine, and Bruno has been pumping out beautiful looking textures to help in the continued development of HI:PR. We don’t have any screenshots for you yet, but, if the current rate of development stands, you might be seeing a few soon.

I also bring news of progress on the HL1 engine. The biggest change is that HL1 development of HI has been turned over to the community, but more on that soon. A small few of the HI team are also perfecting some of the beauties that, unfortunately, we couldn’t include in the 1.4 release. Take a look at one of them right here:

Hi_dvoboj, wonderfully crafted by Squad, takes place in Bosnia, and has NATO’s battling for control of the town, and a satellite uplink. The map not only delivers in the looks category, but also has a fast paced, tactical feel to how it is played.

Look for this map, and more in an official map pack coming to you soon.
