As you may have known halflife2.net recently lost its host. We are trying to sort this out but in the mean time we have obtained some hosting on a new server kindly provided by Burstfire. Until the halflife2.net domain updates (which should be 24 hours) you can access the forums

Vivendi Universal Games confirmed today that Half-Life 2 will not be able to make its scheduled September 30th release date. It's been moved to be released during the holiday season. We will have more information soon. Valve might have ran into some problems or something of the sort so just be patient and they will release it when they can.

Valve and he has managed to get some new info from them.
