United Admins have released version 4.2 of Cheating Death.

Change Log:

Gamasutra have written a article on Mark Laidlaw and it very informative. It talks about how he got into the games industry, how he ended up at Valve and his contribution to Half-Life.

This is a huge article but it's well worth the registration you'll need to read it.

"I have a vivid memory of driving back to Valve from lunch one day, about a year before we shipped Half-Life, and someone said, 'In five years we're either going to be gaming gods or we're going to be completely forgotten.' We laughed at our own hubris, but it was nervous laughter, since we knew that if we didn't succeed we were screwed. Worse than merely being forgotten,"

From GameSpot
Valve and VU Games UK announce that Half-Life 2 will be shown for the first time in Europe at ECTS later this month.
Valve and Vivendi Universal Games UK have today announced that Half-Life 2 will be shown for the first time in Europe at ECTS. The game will be presented, by Valve, in a purpose-built soundproofed amphitheatre dominating much of the VU Games UK stand.
"Great games, like Half-Life 2, are what London Games Week is all about: showcasing the very best the industry has to offer, getting the media focused on the creativity within interactive entertainment and in turn, getting world class titles in front of new players," said Andy Lane, director of ECTS organizer CMP. "Half-Life 2 will undoubtedly be one of the biggest hits of the show and we look forward to welcoming Vivendi and Valve to London Games Week and seeing the game in all its glory on the ECTS show floor."
For more information on Half-Life 2, which was first shown at E3 earlier this year, check out our previous coverage of the game. We'll bring you more on the game when we report live from the ECTS showfloor on August 27-29.

Videogames Italian has interviewed Gabe Newell

Mcx: What has Half Life 2 that Doom 3 hasn't? And what has Doom 3 that Half Life 2 hasn't? :)
Gabe: I'm not an expert on Doom 3. I'm sure I'll buy it, though.

Mcx: Did you solve the problems with FSAA, especially on GeForce FX cards?
Gabe: Just to clear things up, the "problem" was that initially HL-2 looked like any other game the uses lightmaps (e.g.. Quake 3, Elite Force II, ...) with anti-aliasing enabled. We have come up with ways around this.

From http://www.hl-nightwatch.net
I decided to break usual tradition with a mid-week update for you tonight. We've been a while without one, and it's about time to cycle in some new media.

First off, we have 10 new or updated level shots for you today from Tom "tommyd" DiLazaro (Chapters 1 & 3), Robert "Campaignjunkie" Yang (Chapter 4), Mohammad "BadMofo" Alavi (Chapter 5), and Adam "WhoMe" Foster (Chapter 6). Here's the new Chapter 3 stuff from tommy - check out the rest in the Level Media section.

We've also updated with a pair of new shots of our revisions to some of the original Half-Life enemies. As with the Bullsquid, here's a side-by-side comparison of both (original on the left, Nightwatch version on the right):

We should be announcing our forum-related competition sometime this weekend or shortly thereafter. Also keep an eye out for future trickles of updates, particularly to the info section.
