HomeLAN Fed wrote up a nice bit aobut the recent Source code theft.
Of course, leaks of games and source code have happened before but the planned and highly organized theft of source code for an upcoming game as high profile as Half-Life 2 is a new situation and game developers contacted by HomeLAN for comment are all unanimous in their condemnation of these actions. "The theft of source is FAR more serious than traditional game piracy, "said Irrational Games head man Ken Levine. "I don't condone but can understand ripping off a game...I can't understand why somebody would do this. Like everyone else in the world, I expected HL2 to be the game of year. In the normal course of events the game would have shipped in the next couple of months and Valve would have gone to work, as they always have, improving and supporting their product. Now they get to spend the next six months doing damage control."
"It's especially cruel that this happened to a company like Valve who has done so much to empower the gaming and mod community," Levine continued "The guy who did this has probably spent hundreds of hours playing mods and free expansions to a game that Valve and VUG have supported par excellence for five plus years now."

Nature and environment has always played a big role in BG. Instead of the closed areas of the black mesa complex from original Half-Life we mainly see open spaces, forests, valleys and small villages in Battle Grounds. Now after a set of new stone models we continue with a new set of trees and bushes in several sizes for different times of the year. There are leafless trees and dark brown bushes for winter themed maps and colorful yellow trees with leaves falling down in autumn maps. Todays image features a pretty old and big oak with 411 faces; around 100 with transparent skin.

A small video has been released on the Sven Co-op side, demonstrating version 3.0's new edge handling system. Monsters can now jump from ledges when appropriate, are better at traversing ramps, and take falling damage in the same way players do.
