HLGaming.com:What inspired you to create Half-Life? (setting/game play/characters)
Yahn Bernier: The original concept for HL came from folks here thinking about Stephen King's short story "The Mist", along with a healthy dose of X-Files style conspiracy thrown in.

HLGaming.com: Who or what got you into gaming?
Yahn Bernier: I was really into all of the classic arcade games when I was a kid (Centipede, Defender, Donkey Kong, etc.). It never occurred to me that you could make a living making games. I continued to play computer games through the years on various systems (Colecovision, TI/99, Atari 800, Macintosh, and finally PCs). At some point I got interested in 3d graphics and that eventually led to a little side project I was doing working on a Quake editor called BSP. The editor became popular in the Quake community and that led to a job offer at Valve, which is where I've been for the last 6 years now. Before that I was practicing patent law in Atlanta, so it has definitely been an interesting ride.

HLGaming.com: When you look back on Half-Life, what do you wish you had done differently?
Yahn Bernier: That's a hard question, because time has dulled the pain of actually shipping that project. I think all projects have their own list of issues, the major ones that we had to struggle with were determining what the quality bar should be on the title -- i.e., figuring out when the title was "good enough". It's something we continue to struggle with as a company.

Source: The Great Boer War
The newest addition to Half-Life 2 is called 1899 - The Great Boer War. It's about, as the title suggests, the Boer War of 1899 - 1902.

1899 aims to be a realistic representation of the war, with battles ranging from small skirmishes in towns and villages, to Boer attacks from the hills and mountains, to the engagements in the arid plains.

For background reference, the Boer War was a war of independence fought by Dutch settlers out of the colony of South Africa against the mighty British Empire, and after 3 years of war, the Boer's won their way.

1899 currently does need a larger team, so anybody willing to offer services, whatever they may be, should visit the forums at http://1899.hlgaming.com/forums and post some examples of their work.

The URL for 1899 is http://1899.hlgaming.com, and the IRC channel (which needs idlers) is #1899 on irc.gamesnet.net

Hello guys!
Through generous sponsorship from ATI, it's our great pleasure to announce the first international, official, online NS v2.1 tournament! The grand prize for being the best NS clan around the world? Six brand-new, Radeon 9800 Pros...one for each member of the winning team!
What's more, we're opening up the current v2.1 beta testing (on Steam), to all the active clan players in the community. This means that if you are an ACTIVE NS clan (ie, scrimmage every day or every other day), you will automatically get access to the current v2.1 beta, INCLUDING the new intense Combat gameplay mode!
If you aren't part of an active clan, and you really want early access to the v2.1 beta, you can always donate $20 to the cause, and become a Constellation member. Natural Selection is a free game, but we depend greatly on the financial support of the community to continue active development. Being a Constellation member gets you an icon by your name whenever you play online, and also grants access to the current beta and playtesting.
For more details about the ATI tournament, or Constellation membership, go to http://www.natural-selection.org.

We got some new media from Stargate SGC one of their many talented mappers Der Bezwinger, these are of a map from a planet codename "P3X-333". The planet known as P3X-333, seems to be from the decedents of the South American Mayan, that was moved there from the Goa'uld many years before. But have they over come their “Gods” and are free now, or will the inhabitants of P3X-33 be enemies and slaves to the Goa'uld. Only time will tell.
