Souce RustBucket Level Design
Yeah... It's not exactly an update, but I have something going on. A little, maybe. Besides converting Exhausted to AHL and/or TS, I'm working on a small Industrial-grunge themed map.

Souce The War on Terror
Hey guys!! I know we haven't posted news for a while, and I am sorry. I know it sucks... anyways, I got some screen shots of Cassius' map, wot_church, on the Screen Shots page(link in Media section), go check it out! Note: the HUD shown in some of the screen shots is not the offical HUD, just a test one for now. On that note, Cassius' is currently working on a HUD right now.

A set of small game server changes are being released tonight on Steam, along with a few localized files for German CS players. Dedicated servers will need to restart in order to receive the update. Some of the included changes are:
  • Added some localized content to the German version of Counter-Strike
  • Re-enabled bots on Linux CS:CZ servers
  • Replace "#" with " " if it is the first character in a player's in-game name (this change applies to dedicated servers; listen servers already received this change)
  • Ensured proper startup sequence for CS:CZ Windows dedicated servers

The new version of the dedicated server is compatible with existing clients, so server administrators can apply this update at their discretion.

For Immediate Release
CPL Officially Announces The Cyberathlete®
Extreme World Championships

Dallas, Texas - Tuesday, April 6, 2004 - Today, the Cyberathlete Professional League® (CPL) officially announced its grand event for 2004, the Cyberathlete® Extreme World Championships, primarily sponsored by Intel and their Intel® Pentium® 4 processor with HT Technology Extreme Edition, and co-sponsored by NVIDIA, Hitachi and CompUSA. The Extreme World Championships will take place Wednesday, July 28 to Sunday, August 1, 2004 at the brand new Gaylord Texan Resort & Convention Center in Grapevine, Texas.

Although the event had not been officially announced until today, thousands of gamers from all over the world already have registered online, also booking rooms in three different hotels at record levels.

In the competitor category, over 1,600 gamers have registered to participate in one of four official tournaments, making it the world's largest professional computer games competition.

A projected purse of $250,000 in cash prizes will be offered for all four official tournaments as follows:
  • $100,000 Counter-Strike Tournament - sponsored by Hitachi Global Storage Technologies

  • $50,000 Call of Duty Tournament - sponsored by NVIDIA

  • $50,000 Battlefield 1942 Tournament - sponsored by NVIDIA

  • $50,000 Halo PC Tournament - sponsored by NVIDIA

About 2,000 people have registered for the CPL's Bring Your Own Computer (BYOC) area. BYOC registrants can bring computers, monitors and peripherals to the event and connect via Ethernet, to a switched 10/100 Local Area Network (LAN) . The CPL provides a variety of gaming servers which BYOC attendees can use to play, practice and informally compete with each other.

Additionally, over 30 companies have already signed up to host exhibitions at the Summer Extreme Championships. A complete list of exhibitors and exhibitor activities will be released in early May. The exhibition area will be the largest ever for a computer game competition and will feature exhibition booths from Intel, NVIDIA, Hitachi, CompUSA, Shuttle, PNY, MSI, NetFire, NCSoft, Novalogic, Mad Dog, Corsair, Antech and others. The CPL estimates that about 10,000 people will visit the exhibition area during the five-day event.

The main stage, located in Intel's exhibition area, will host not only the final tournament matches (featuring large split screens and plasma monitors for public viewing), but will also host a music concert featuring the band Reflection Theory. Reflection Theory will perform music from their new CD to be released during the Extreme World Championships. The concert will take place Wednesday, July 28, 2004 at 8:00PM.

Event registration includes the following categories:
  • 1. Competitor ($80) - Competitor registrants can participate in one of the official tournaments.

  • 2. BYOC Attendee ($80) - BYOC registrants can bring their computers to the event.

  • 3. Spectator ($20) - Spectator registrants have access to the spectator area, exhibitions, workshops, music concert, non-official tournaments and sponsor giveaways.

  • 4. Exhibition Attendee ($5) - Exhibition registrants only have access to the large exhibition area. The online registration for this category will open Monday, May 3, 2004.

  • 5. Media Passes (free) - Members of the media and press can request free access to the event by following the instructions located here.

The Resistance and Liberation Mod (http://www.resistanceandliberation.com) for Half-Life 2 has updated it's media page (http://www.resistanceandliberation.com/?section=media) with several new renders of it's Glider Infantry Regiment and Fallschirmjäger player models. With the exception of touch-ups that will be added and other model props, this completes all the major media one can expect to see in the first release of RnL.

The last news update was of course fake, it was April Fools Day after all. However we really are in need of a texture artist to join the team. We're looking for someone with experience in developing photo-realistic / semi-photo-realistic weapon and/or organic skins. If you think you have what it takes (serious applicants only), send past work/examples to sniper@svencoop.com.

Other than that, we're slowly but surely getting work finished on 3.5. Here are the game types we are currently interested in / working on implementing, with a basic description:
  • VIP - Players must escort a fellow player or NPC to a defined point. Mappers have the option of setting up spawn points for guards to various routes along a path the VIP must take.

  • Assault - Players must run into an area guarded by NPCs and destroy specified objects. Can be an unlimited amount of objects, specified by mapper. Upon destruction, object triggers something. Can have time limit.

  • Invasion - Players must defend structures or NPCs within the given time period from invading monsters. Structures and NPCs can be repaired, and the mapper can define whether or not a given entity is allowed to be repaired by the players. Via the class system, players will have the ability to build things like sentry guns or other defensive structures.

  • Rush - Players must bring various keys/items to defined points. Mapper creates as many or as little "rush points" as possible. The rush points are guarded by respawning monsters. Players with keys/items are considered to be the highest threat (nemesis) by the guarding monsters. Other players help the main player with the key (can be anything) get by the guards and reach the goal.

  • Keep in mind, the above game types are subject to change at any time, and they can be mixed with the player class system. You can start mapping now for these game types, but will not be able to see them in-action on Sven Co-op 3.0. We're interested in seeing what the community can come up with. Later when we're closer to release, we'll put up the 3.5 Hammer FGD for download so mappers can add in the newer systems.

In other news, Mr.Franswa, the level designer of Resident Evil: The Awakening and the upcoming Resident Evil: The Awakening 2 was on Half-Life Radio recently. He had a good lengthy interview on his Sven Co-op mission, so listen in to Half-Life Radio to see if the show is aired again. RE: The Awakening 2's website is located at http://www.retheawakening.tk or http://www.bidybag.com/re.
