We have had false starts, trip ups and delays but finally we have got to where we wanted to be and are happy to let you all in on Beta 3. We appreciate we let you down a month ago and we hope this release will make up for that delay.

Enough talking, you have probably already drifted right past this to the list of mirrors anyway! Any problems either pop into the forums or onto the IRC channel. See you in a server kids!

“EnigmaComplex website launch.”
The EnigmaComplex development team is pleased to announce the official launch of the project website. A brief game synopsis is included below.

“EnigmaComplex is a modification of the popular Half-Life2 FPS (first person shooter) released by The Valve Corporation. Enigma's storyline takes the player through a modern world of corporate corruption, government conspiracy and the clandestine shaping of the new world with a plot based heavily on current events. EC is as an episodic cliffhanger with each new chapter offering more questions than answers.

In addition to the traditional game dynamics one might expect from an FPS, EnigmaComplex will utilize a variety of unconventional techniques to further world immersion. The EC team draws heavily from the motion picture industry, constructing action scenes and exciting sequences that create a movie-like game experience. In addition, though we won't release details at this time, the player may be called upon to explore external sources of research to further advance within the game. Many surprises and challenges await the player as he struggles to determine his own destiny and discover disturbing truths about our brave new world.”

Long time no see! We’ve stuck our heads in the sand, and gone into full crunch time! There’s a lot of progress; only little is visual material at the moment.
The redo is not yet complete, so most of our alpha testing is done with the old models.
Nevertheless here are some samples of graphical progress:

First of all we’ve completed more Resistance Characters. Each character is given a “profile card” which explains the characters background and weaponry.

These profile cards will be shown in the Character Selection menu.
More Resistance Characters are nearing completion, so more updates coming soon.

On top of this we have been busy working on the universe, loads of new artwork is being made, along with new sets of map models and skymap models.
Here is a sample of one of the super-structures we’re building. These are relatively “low-poly” structures meant for the skymap.

And some ingame shots:

That’s it for now.
There’s a lot in the works, so we’ll be releasing new media soon.
If you have any comments or suggestions feel free to visit our forums at: www.isotx.com.

The time has come, and I'm going to be your philosophical guide through today's update. Before we begin, though, everyone needs to soothe their chi, focus their spirit, and get on this carpet with me, cause I'm gonna take you to a whole new world?

"If awesomeness is the essence of essenceness, and Scotland was founded in the 'early days,' then we will rise again to take your children."

That's what FooleyCooley was talkin' about the other day just moments before he sprung his trap on us, but it was a trap of goodness, and we got both arms caught in it. It was ok, though, cause inside not only did we find the super shotgun:

But beside Karl's journey spirit, was a knife and a wrench, both of which were believed to be involved in a massive orca slaying.

You're probably wondering how we were able to save ourselves from this trap, and it wasn't easy... you can't really know the effects of three pounds of peyote until you fall down the stairs at your grandparent's 50th anniversary, and somebody helps you up. Well, when we looked up, there were two people lookin' down on us.

First of all, there was omen, who grabbed us by the legs and used his modeling prowess to keep decs' glass of bourbon always half-full, and on the other end there was ted_maul who was holding us by the wrists and tryin' to comfort our fractured spine with promises of "super neat-o" special effects through his huge cup of coding knowledge. Neither of these two guys could help with the damage done to our soul, though. No, we had to hire a thin-lipped Jewish woman who answers to the name of BritishTang to whisper those sweet nothings to us in the form of all things sound-related.

Later on, though, we were nursing ourselves back to health with a beautiful big breasted Scottish gentlemen who told us all these stories about how he used to chase gazelles through the corridors of the far away land of "ff_bases," and while he tried to paint a mental picture for us, he failed, so we hired some other guy to just make the map for us so we could play it instead.

Although the fog is thick, so are the waves, and we should heed the warning of those giant Indians that stepped out of that spaceship, and remember when the time comes, "It's ok to be naked with friends."

Which, roughly translated, means, "There are thousands, if not several, more screenshots deep within' the belly of the mongrels?"

As always, we would like to thank our community for its continued interest and support of the HEAT mod. The following is a brief update on some projects and progress that has been made since the last news update.
To begin, we welcome Complex, our new map props modeler and skinner, to the team! He has been hard at work which can be seen in his recent models .plan updates. These two screenshots show his gate switch model, complete with a moving knob and illuminating lights. This switch opens the main entrance to a base on the map bay:

Since the last news update we have invited the most active members of our forum and IRC channel to play the current build of the mod with us. While we have had some great fun and received a lot positive feedback, it is obvious that are still a lot of things left to do.
Currently, our highest priority will be attempting to get our Linux server running bug-free. Despite weeks of hard work from our coding team, this problem has yet to be resolved. In an attempt to rectify this issue, Quak has decided to merge our code with the newest HL2 SDK code and check for errors as often as possible. We hope that after this procedure is complete, we can return our focus to implementing new features once again.

To round off the media part of the news, these are two more screenshots of Vaarscha's newest map which takes place in the morning fog of a southamerican bay.

Linux build ready
Thanks to Bigbird we do now have a linux build of Sands of War 2 beta 1.1. This should help to improve the amount of servers.

Head over to the download section to get it. You do only need this if you want to run a dedicated server on a computer with linux.

Going forward, but where is that?
We got a lot of different directions we can take SoW2 in and it is certain that it will become different from the current version. In order to find the right path for the mod we would like to hear what your favorite part of the game is.

Custom models coming
Our new modeller TSS got a lot of interesting unique SoW2 models in the works. You can find his well written journal here:

We need more skinners to give these nice models a fitting surface. If you are capable of skinning models, then please check out the jobs section at our site.

Generally a lot of new models are being shown in our 3d art forum, which can be found here:
