Many members are on vacation and are gone for an extended period of time. Even mod makers like to enjoy the nice summer weather. But those of us who are still working away on the mod have some new stuff to show for it. SHaRD has some early renders of an elf up in his dev diary. Cell has been hard at work on the mouse movement recognition coding. There is also a group of people working on putting together the HUD for Teroldor. I (Tompko) have also made my first steam skin for Teroldor, a screenshot and download link are in my dev diary. Good summer to everyone, enjoy the weather.

Alright everyone, happy times are upon us! The forums are back up and have had a very nice makeover. These changes were done by Junkbox so make sure to compliment the custom Photoshop jobs :D. The only problem with the new forums is that the people that were signed up before will have to sign up again. This is because our previous host went down and lost everything. The sign up process is very very easy and shouldn't be much of a pain in your side. Thanks for being so great and waiting for the forums to come back up. Now that they are, lets go all out and get some great ideas for the game.

Welcome back. As promised, I have the updated backstory ready for your viewing pleasure. It has a few more details just to make the Black Dragon universe seem a little more interesting. Please, post any feedback you may have about it. Thanks and enjoy:It Begins:The beginning of 2030 saw the world at a very turbulent time. Countries were at each other's throats and the world economy was falling drastically. With the UN disappearing by 2040, countries made their own alliances. Largely based on landmass, two main governments were created. One was the mixture of Europe, Asia, Africa and Australia (Joint Eastern Confederation). The other was comprised of the North and South America, as well as Antarctica (Unity Coalition). This division of the world only spread more flames and eventually triggered what became known as World War III. As it was predicted, the third of the world wars would be the most costly. The launch of four separate nuclear missiles, two by each side, meant the death of 30% of the world's population. Not only did a harsh nuclear winter follow, but certain areas of the globe became unable to support life for hundreds of years. Time to Rebuild:After this catastrophe some common ground was achieved between the two parties. A treaty was signed which established that no more wars will be fought on Earth. This was the agreement that forever established Earth as a neutral ground. By the year 2120, humanity began to rebuild itself. The populations were rising again and advances in science were continuing to make life better for everyone. The limited space gave birth to the use of “Mega Cities”, which were layered vertically, rather then horizontally. Additionally, a better understanding of solar energy allowed humans to harness the power of the Sun more efficiently then ever. The New Frontier:Though disputes still arose between the JEC and Unity, the treaty regulations were upheld and not a shot was ever fired. Eventually, space travel became a common technology. It was achieved through the dawn of Schneider Gates, named after their founder, Dr. Igor Schneider. These gates have the ability to stabilize wormholes, making them safe for interstellar travel. The energy field created by them is so strong, that it has the ability to “solidify” the wormhole tunnel on both ends. Essentially, this created a one way trip. The only way to get back would be by creating another gate. This new technology gave both parties the ability to spread their roots into the galaxy. Both groups sent their own teams to find planet’s that shared characteristics with Earth. JEC sent a group they called the Peace Makers searching for such a planet. Unity sent in the Pilgrims. Both groups located what would forever be known as Gaia II. This planet resembled earth in great detail. Both groups landed, and both claimed the planet for their own. No one is sure who fired the first shot, but an all out war began between the two parties for control of the planet. Funny enough, no matter what happened on that distant planet, Earth remained peaceful; the treaty was upheld. New technologies in warfare made this a constant struggle for advancement, each group trying to out power the other. Eventually, Unity won the rights. The battles didn't end there. Another planet, Gaia III, was located by 2160. JEC took that one. This brings us to today, 2190, and Gaia IV.The Black Dragon:The player takes the role of a Unity soldier sent to help secure Gaia IV. His name is James Henderson, son of David Henderson, Gaia III hero. The strong military influence present at home made James an excellent student in the Unity Academy. He graduated with honors, and received recognition for his excellent tactical expertise and handling of fire arms. His first assignment was at a campaign to secure a Trinomite asteroid. Trinomite is the primary resource used in the production of space crafts for both groups.James’s excellent performance during that campaign got him named to the Black Dragons, an elite group of soldiers able to handle any situation. His first assignment as a Black Dragon is to help secure Gaia IV, a newly discovered Earth-like planet.

HomeLAN - Finally, we have to ask; how is Half-Life 2 coming along? Gabe Newell - Good. It's in great shape. We anticipate delivering it to Vivendi in August.Apparently this is legitimate.

Codename Gordon, a side scrolling adventure through the Half-Life universe, has been requested and played by over 600,000 Steam customers since its release just three weeks ago. "The ability to reach this many gamers almost overnight is amazing," said Tim Bruns, art director at Nuclearvision. "Having built a wide installed base for the game through Steam, we can now collect user feedback, integrate that data, and distribute new Codename Gordon content to gamers very soon."Created by Nuclearvision Entertainment, Codename Gordon takes players through dozens of levels inspired by Half-Life and Half-Life 2, challenges players to a slew of puzzles, and showcases many of the familiar creatures in an all new, 2 dimensional playing field. Source: CS NationI forgot the day CS was released but luckily CS-Nation pointed it out. I think a few more mods were released around this time too but my memory is not as good as it once was. :)
Counter-Strike turns five years old today! Released on June 18th, 1999, BETA 1 was one of the first major mods for Half-Life. From there, Counter-Strike blossomed into its current form. Even after years of content and gameplay updates, CS is still being updated rountinely with help from the controversial Steam platform.Half a decade is quite a milestone and I must congratulate the CS team on such a grand accomplishment. Counter-Strike's success is unparalleled by any other online title. Everyone else on the Internet thinks that the CS community is just a bunch of immature kids. Well, if that's true, then I'm a damn pervert because I love you guys! Haha, not really. Get off my MSN list, you loser.Anyway, yeah, five years!

You wanted an update and you got one. Here are some new pictures of the new Enfield rifle! Done by Oelund and Rotzbua, this Enfield keeps the detail of the original with much better reloading and firing animations. The white pointed cartridges look great, and the "partial reload" animations are very detailed. If the player has only fired one or two rounds, the animation shows the hand putting two individual cartridges into the gun instead of putting in another stripper clip. Great job as always Oelund and Rotzbua!

The Half-Life Radio show starts at 8pm EST / 1am GMT tonight. We will be broadcasting live in the #Radio channel on the GamesNET IRC and if you don't have an IRC client, just click on the "CHAT" button at the top. Both Valve and Vivendi will not confirm whether or not the game will ship in the Summer or the Fall. We did speak with Valve about this report as we always do on a daily basis, but they have been instructed not to comment on the HL2 release. They certainly will not deny the Fall release speculation. Until we have a valid release date, we are going to stand correct with our community reports that Summer is a very unlikely target. We'll let the HL2 community decide whether it's Summer or Fall.We are inviting the Half-Life 2 community to be on the radio tonight for further discussion and commentary and to tell us how they feel about all the conflicting release reports. It's going to be a great show tonight, so be sure to listen to Half-Life Radio. Special guests tonight will be staff members from Planet Half-Life and CS Nation (Counter-Strike Nation). Tune in to HL Radio tonight for the live broadcast.
