I was working on the site for about 2 hours and leaned back in my chair. You know what I saw? One big project no where close to being done. I started brain storming, and decided this decision. GameJack is offically going to be used for MOD creation SUPPLIES. This means snippets of source code, maps, textures, models; everything that one would need to start a MOD/get supplies for a MOD. All current MODS in progress will be given 2 months to remove all information from GameJack.

The league's new commissioner, Justin Blanchard, announced today the following game format changes to this winter's $100,000 Counter-Strike tournament sponsored by Hitachi Global Storage Technology.
Regular Matches
. Increase of max rounds from 12 to 15
. Decrease round time from 2:30 to 1:45
. Increase freeze time between rounds from 10 seconds to 15 seconds

Overtime Matches
. Increase start money from $800 to $10,000
. Increase freeze time from 15 seconds to 20 seconds

Justin Blanchard believes that these changes will move the game play to a structure similar to NFL football. Rounds with lots of action followed by a regrouping strategy period, then another play with lots of action. Overtime changes should provide teams an opportunity to utilize their full gamut of strategy instead of just one round determining play for the remainder of overtime.

Justin also released a preliminary version of the Counter-Strike tournament rules, now located at www.thecpl.com/winter/cs_rules.html

At the weekend we published our preview of Counter-Strike: Source, the latest game to be released by Valve. Counter-Strike: Source runs on the excellent Source engine which also powers Half-Life 2. We noted in our preview that even at high settings the engine ran well and performance was excellent however as with other new engines there is always a lot of questions around what card is faster. Luckily Valve have provided a tool in the latest build of CSS which answers that very question and we at Driverheaven have been lucky enough to have access to it.

So today we will be running ATI and Nvidia's high end cards through some Source benchmarks and reporting to you which card you'll want to invest in if your looking for the best performance from the Source engine.

Test Setup:

Connect 3D ATI Radeon X800 XTPE 256mb
Reference Nvidia Geforce 6800Ultra 256mb

Athlon64 FX-53
1gb Corsair PC3200LL
MSI K8T neo2- FIR
80gb Samsung 7200rpm 8mb Cache SATA Drive

Windows XP SP2
DX 9.0c
Nvidia Forceware 61.77
Catalyst 4.8 WHQL

Conclusion:
Shocked is one word that comes to mind looking at these results. Where Nvidia has beaten ATI by a reasonable margin in Doom3 the results completely reverse and then some on the Source engine, a 30% performance difference ( 74fps to 52fps ) is, to be honest, a massive dissapointment if your a Geforce 6800 Ultra user. We had fully expected to have a very close contest when running the benchmarks however that has not proven to be the case, hopefully Nvidia have a new driver in the works that will bump up performance enough to make things competitive.

Today capel, and profane, both very talented modelers, joined our team. In addition to that, GHL, a new "texture-boy" and modeler has joined our team. Welcome them to Kingdom Lost! Capel has already proved his immeasurable worth by providing a very nice looking render of a vampire spawn, essentially a vampire in its early stages, which you can find right here.

A note: Vampires prove invaluable for mages and other dark magic characters.

You can also find Profane's website right here.

Enjoy, and post your comments/suggestions!

The new Team, Files, Gallery and Links pages will return on Wednesday mid-day for your viewing pleasure :)

Also will have a brand new POTM & the new POTM Gallery!

*looks around* Yep the site still isn't complete. Anyways, We've had a little shuffling with the team over the past month. Mr. Smo has been removed from the team. However, he has graciously allowed us to use the skins he was working on for ESF. In order to fill the void Kama has joined up with the development team as a skinner. Both God Gundam and Kama have teamed up to create a ginyu model for beta 1.3. Check it out!

In other news, harSens has released a revised powerstruggle outline on his site. If you would like to check out the design document a pdf is available at

http://home.student.utwente.nl/h.vanwelbergen/esf/powerstruggles.pdf.

Also, Mantis back online. If you aren't aware of what Mantis is, it is our bug tracking utility. The status of reported bugs can be easily accessed through

http://bugs.esforces.com.

We are aware that there is a random crashing bug in beta 1.2.1 (dubbed ESF 1.2 Millenium Edition). Our testing and development staff are working to find the cause of this problem. Once we find one we are planning on releasing a 1.2.2 patch. If you notice any pattern to the crashing please be sure to let us know what you find.
