If you have purchased a copy of Half-Life 2, we are sorry you are still waiting to play. This is not Valve's choice. Vivendi is insisting that the game has not yet been released, and has threatened that Valve would be in violation of its contract if we activate the Half-Life 2 Steam authentication servers at this time.

Thanks for your patience and we will update you when we have more news to share.

GameSpot has opened up it's great behind the game article about Half-Life 2. From start to end (Gold) they cover about everything that happened during the development of Half-Life 2. But they also go beyond that and look at the future, Team Fortress, X-Box conversion etc. The Final Hours of Half-Life 2 is truly a great inside article of which this is just a small part:

"This time the stakes are different."

It was with those six words that Gabe Newell launched the development of Half-Life 2 in June 1999. Yes, you read that right--1999, only six months after the original Half-Life shipped. For Valve there was never a question about whether there would be a sequel to Half-Life. The question was how the company could top--or even match--what was being heralded as one of the best PC titles of all time.

The full, 25 pages long, in depth article filled with screens (Normal ad exclusive) can be found here at GameSpot.

It now appears that Half-Life 2 has already been sold to several people in America, so reports GameSpot in a article that comes with several photos of the product to proof it. You can check out the article here and the two photos can be found here.

Will Valve act on this, will they push the release forward, as they have stated to do when there would be another release, or is the release still going to be November 16? We shall see in the coming days.

Half-Life Fallout reports the news that the Blog that revealed the now official release date long before Valve did (Gotten via a Source), now reports that the same Source revealed something that could indicate that Valve is planning to release something for Half-Life 2 around the release of the game. And the words indicate that it could be a Multi Player for the game:

However, here's something I thought that you would want to know. The same source who scored on the game going gold sent this to me last night:
There's going to be a special treat near launch or soon after for those who are upset that Counter-Strike Source is the only multiplayer offered out of the box. I'd hate to ruin the surprise but let's just say traditionalists will be happy even if it's just one map at first. Physics Cannon!

Do note, nothing official, it's all a rumor at the moment and only time will tell if it's a hoax or not.

I am curious to see how you and Valve will stand on all the Half-Life2 Deathmatch mods coming our way since HL2 will not have the original Half-Life DM.

If mod team port over Half-Life maps and Half-Life2 maps and use weapons will you allow this?

Do the teams need to contact you or report in sorta speak so you know what exactly they are doing with the work you have put out?

I know you are busy but this info would be great. I am getting many
Half-Life2 mods registering at our site.

www.moddb.com I am authorizing the mods for the time being but if you are not going to allow them to use the work from HL and HL2 they really don't need to be wasting anyone's time.

Thanks Doug

Hi.

These sound like interesting projects.

The specifics of what's allowed will be outlined in the SDK End User's License Agreement (EULA).

Cheers
