Well, with the end of the month comes the end of the month update. I'll start with a little info on what's been going on behind the scenes.

Lt. Kelly's Skins
---------------------------------------
Originally we were using photoskins as place holders for the skin work that was to come later when we were able to recruit some more experienced skinners. However, Lt. Kelly has become quite skilled in this field and just like his modelling skils, these increase with each project he completes.

His last assignment was to skin our original crowbar, beretta, and mossberg.

These picts have been updated in our gallery.

Termin8tor's RPD Additions
----------------------------------------------
Termin8tor has continued working on the RPD and has particularly been focusing on the Library.
Picts will be updated shortly.
Incy's Sewer
------------------------------------------
Incy has begun massive work on his sewers map. With the passing of his mid-point date comes several pictures.

Team Organizational Update
-------------------------------------------------
As a team we voted on a new team policy and all signed it.

This is available to anyone who wants to take a look but is too large to simply copy-paste here.

From the list of signatures we came up with a new forum mask that allowed only members of the Oraculus Studios Staff permission mask to view a new forum group known as assignments.

In these forums we have the sections "Potential" and "Active". Every assignment begins as potential and includes specifics listed in a thread as well as a mid-point date and a due date.

The mid-point date is a date halfway from the assigning to the due date. This date requires the team member to post a small bit regarding to how their doing and possibly some pictures depending on the job.

Once the team member accepts the assignment it is moved into the Active forum.

So far this has worked well and the additions to the gallery show this.

HalfLife2.net posted some great information on the upcoming map from MoonQuake, a Battlefield 1942 community member and maker of ActionBF. MoonQuake is making a objective based map for the game in which both teams will have to complete several tasks in order to win a round. Here some details of his map, called The Heart of the Revolters, along with the objectives and one of the screens:

"The Heart of the Revolters is map that is located in Precinct 15. The Combines were informed of their presence and ordered to "disinfect" the area. In the first attack wave, the Combines, while beaten back by the Rebels, managed to capture Alyx and take her back into the Combine base. It's only a matter of time before Alyx is judged and Combine reinforcements arrive. The Rebels must bring Alyx back to the HQ, teleport her to Kleiner's lab, and get the hell out of Precinct 15."

Combine Objectives:
-Reach and unlock the Precinct 15 Sector Door to gain access.
-Blowup the Rebels Weapons Truck hidden behind the Rebel HQ to cut-off their heavy armament.
-Destroy the Control Room inside the HQ to blowup the whole place.

Rebel Objectives:
-Prevent the Combine from reaching the Sector Door.
-Defend the Weapons Truck and the Control Room.
-Rescue the "frozen" Alyx that is held in the Combines Base.

Some great new BrainBread Beta 1.2 Patch info and media has been send in, along with the winners of the Zombie Skinning Contest:

Hi,

Things are back to normal! Forums work, Gallery is back with new screens and I have some news for you: First of all I's like to congratulate to the winners of the zombie skinning contest! There were many awesome skins done by talented artists, and it was a very hard choice. We wanted to implement more skins, but HL once again said "no". I am proud to announce the winners of the contest: R3bel, MZ.MARS and RoyGBiv. Thanks to everyone who participated!

IronOak is working on the Beta 1.2 patch content: Madmax_FMM has almost finished his Mappack, Spin fixed reported bugs and implemented a new weapon. The winchester rifle is entirely finished and animated, and we're thinking about adding another weapon for this patch: this time no firearm or closecombat weapon :) I hope you're happy with the "Shaun of the dead" winchester!

Many of you have propably seen the Dawn of the Dead remake, and this new weapon will handle exactly like the movie weapon. Well, it might not be that strong, but still fun to use, believe me :)

Check the BrainBread site for more info and media.

The well known mapper 3D-Mike (DE_Survivor, DE_Predator, etc) has started work on his first Half-Life 2 Deathmatch map. The map is currently still under development, but he has released some great looking screenshots of it already. Here the first screens, and info, of DM-AVALON:

DM-AVALON by 3D-Mike

Actually I had an idea for a Counter-Strike map first but I abandoned that. I figured It was perhaps a bit too early to try and make something really cool when I dont know the engine all that well. Then I discovered Valve had a contest for creating a DM map with Half-life 2 material only. I figured this was a good opportunity to learn about Source mapping before actually making my own models and textures. Mind you these screens are far from final but I hope they do show the concept well. I find it hard to make an interesting map when you have to use standard material but I tried hard to stay away from the standard Half-life-city-in-rumble-theme

Check out 3D-Mike's site for more.

Version 4 of Garry's Mod has been released, bringing to you the following fun things, fixes and additions:

Garry's mod v4 has been released. This new version adds a camera with depth of field blur, an air cannister gun as well as a number of fixes.

The images above have not been touched with any image processing application. The blur is switched on and off in game.

Here's the changelog:

-Added simple camera (for taking screenshots)
-Added cannisters (used to propel objects)
-Added fake depth blur (USE when holding the simple camera to cycle on/off)
-Added ability to rotate picked up objects by holding down USE (This is all thanks to Adnan, http://skew.telefragged.com/mods/hl2/ARGG/ ).
-Fixed world ropes coming undone after saving
-Added rigid rope to crossbow (USE to change types)
-Sprites now update the refract texture - Don't know if Valve left it out on purpose or whether it was an oversight.
-Fixed jeep pausing bug
-Moved 357 HUD camera to the left of the screen
-Fixed crash when trying to grab 3D skybox with the gravity gun (should fix other crashes too)
-Activated multiplayer menu - multiplayer is uncomplete and unsupported. Use at your own risk. It's easy to crash - so only play with people who aren't idiots.

You can download garry's mod over at the official site.

Related: They Hunger

The creator of very popular zombie mod trilogy They Hunger, Neil Manke, reports that it's still unsure if a Source remake will be made:

We have not received a reply to our inquiry to Valve concerning remaking "They Hunger" using the HL2/Source engine. So, at least for the time being, it looks as if we will not be doing a HL2/Source project.

I for one do hope that the They Hunger trilogy will be remade for the Source Engine. More on this as it develops.

Related: WH40K : Rival Species

Brand new WH40K : Rival Species media has been released by the team of the mod:

A new year also brings a new release! We are currently preparing version 1.2 and it already passed stability testing. At the moment we work on the final balancing of the weapons and classes ( especially the new classes for the Orks
and the World Eaters ). To keep your eyes happy while waiting for the upcoming release, lets take a tour through our latest modelling deeds.

To start off, Chromeangel just recently finished modelling and skinning a hot new weapon for the orks: The Burna! Orks love to be loud and noisy, but destroying and torching things comes right next to that.

That is not everything that we have in store for you! We are pushing forward the next release (version 1.3) which will feature the Cadian Guard. Jove finished the model and skinmesh for the basic guardsmen and Bahl completed the skin for the Cadian Guard Comissar ( modelled by Jove ):

The Comissar 's role will be to keep up the morale of the other Cadian classes (by force if necessary).

While these models are for a future release, we already plan and work on content that will be included in an even later version! The next species that we will include after ironing out the Cadian Guard, will be the vile Necrons. Chromeangel has been working on the playermodels for this species. His latest great job is the Necron Lord that will lead his fellow combatrobots into battle.

The second Necron model is the Flayed One. It is a conversion of the original Necron Warrior by Bloodyharry. He has transformed it into a wicked monster with parts of human skin and flesh and a pair of razorsharp claws.

The Flayed Ones will bring terror to their enemies. If those are Cadian Guard, then they will surely need the help of their Comissar!

Related: HL2: Substance V0.32

The single player enhancement mod HL2: Substance V0.32 has been released. With HL2: Substance V0.32 you will greatly increase the Half-Life 2 single player part with more enemies, and over all increase of difficulty etc. Well I'll just let the creator, xdiesp, tell you what you will get:

Description:
HL2: Substance V0.32 includes 32 levels, many skin addons and a soundpack!

Rise and shine ... once more with this great Half-Life 2 Singleplayer modification!

Enhanced single player experience by xdiesp:

This mod gives a new breath to HL² single player by improving each and every aspect of its gameplay. In short,no level plays the same again. I'm a fanatic of intensive action and my levels speak for me. Voidness and boredom in HL2 are no more! Challenges have been improved too. The SP veterans will be pleased, expect a Nova Prospekt-like requirement of skill since the very start. Gigantic, bloody battles never seen before will enrage on your screen, and you'll never fight them alone because teamplay is another milestone of mine.

Rebel forces, vortigaunt pals; keep your friends closer than ever! Try the 7th level to see what is meant by this - it's better than a thousand words. The new variety of this SP will surprise you. The original HL2 experience is dramatically subverted. Don't try to imagine what will come next, keep a firm grip on your gun or you'll soon cease to exist! New skins and sound are included to further personalize your new passage through City17. Welcome to the real substance, what the action is made of!

Installation guide:

Extract the zip archive into your C: -> program files -> valve -> steam -> NAME -> steamapps -> sourcemods directory. To play, simply load steam and select "Play games -> HL2Substance". Then pick the Substance level of your choice from the "New Game" menu. When you beat a level, the next one will be loaded automatically (Note: level 26 must be loaded manually).

System requirements

These richer, more frantic versions of HL² stages may sometimes use a slightly higher quantity of system resources than the relatively plain, old ones did - this is normal. If you experience slow downs, try and lower down a bit your level of detail or resolution setting. HL² graphics are so great that you won't even notice the quality loss, while instead fully appreciating the FPS boost!

As a last word, enjoy this great modification and feel free to share your opinions and any bugs/glitches :)

Half-Life Fallout has put online their Half-Life 2 Deathmatch guide made by Omnipotent-Q:

The aim of Deathmatch is to annihilate the opposition using any means at your disposal — whether that means throwing toilets and radiators at your opponent using the gravity gun, or simply shooting them with your conventional arsenal. The person or team with the most kills at the end of the match wins the game and gets the unparalleled honour of their name at the top of the end-game scoreboard. Of course, for most people winning is secondary to the fun factor. Luckily, HL2DM provides this aplenty.
