I didn't think I would be writing this news post quiet yet, but events in my life have forced me to. The last few months have shown me that I do not have the time to work on Half Life Player that I would like to have. I will keep the site up as long as I can for those who still want to download, it has been great working on a project like this, thanks to everyone who has downloaded HLPlayer, it has exceeded my wildest expectations. My thanks also go out to everyone who has contributed to Half Life Player, the list is huge, but in every case we could not of succeed without your help.

I really dont want to see Half Life Player die so if anyone wants to finish what we started please email me at jabbathehunt@hlplayer.com.

The HLGuard and RESGen projects are being taken over by The Z Project. The Z Project is a newly formed organization consisting of 2 current United Admins members as well as a number of non-UA members, some members of the official UA HLGuard forums.

In the future, The Z Project will be developing HLGuard and RESGen independent of UA. The HLGuard forums will still be provided by UA, therefore support will still be available at same place as always.

United Admins Limited would like to thank Zero3Cool and Zepher for all of the time and hard work they've done. UA wishes them success with HLGuard, RESGen, and all future projects.

In grand style, the Z Project has also released a brand new version of HLGuard, it is available on their website.

~
Changelog:
  • Cleaned and optimized most of the core code in HLGuard. This will continue through the next couple of versions as well.

  • Added HLGuard mode 7 - Burstfire Detection. This feature can detect the use of almost any rapidfire & burstfire scripts/hacks.

  • Replaced the UA-BL (will return in a later version) with the Steambans client

  • Added new alias detections.

  • The configs have been rewritten for easier usage and better performance

  • Rewrote all alias/cvar detection codes and removed all out of date alias/cvar checks.

  • Added 3 detections levels to cvar/alias checks, giving admins more control over which detections they wish to run.

  • Added hlg_reset command to reset HLGuard. If "net"/"lan"/"league" is passed as an argument the hlg_loadmode command in hlguard.cfg will be ignored, and the proper mode loaded instead.

  • Added hlg_blockcommand for blocking client commands.

  • Moved hlguard.cfg inside the config folder.

  • Added hlg_loadmode to replace hlg_exec loading of hlg_net.cfg/hlg_lan.cfg/hlg_league.cfg

  • If agreement is enabled an alias scan will now not start before the agreement has been accepted.

  • The agreement will not be shown before the player is alive, to avoid overriding team/model selection menus

  • Fixed clients not being scanned for aliases if agreement was enabled.

  • Changed the player menu to display the status and progress of the alias scan at each client.

  • Removed the cvars and commands: hlg_slowfrequency, hlg_delay, hlg_load, hlg_slowfrequency, hlg_delay, hlg_clearfilelist, hlg_showfiles, hlg_resethud and hlg_loadcfg.

  • Changed hlg_quiet so it works logically - 2=no msg 1=small msg ("Protected by HLGuard..") 0=full msg ("Protected by HLGuard.." + hlg_msg content).

  • Clients will now recieve the cheat description and code when being kicked

  • Removed the "detections" menu counters.

  • Changed hlg_filecheck default value to empty (instead of disabled).

  • Changed the localinfo check on "hlg_config" to "hlg_configfolder". Can be used to specify a custom hlguard config folder instead of addons/hlguard/config/.

  • Added hlg_logfolder cvar.

  • A very long list of minor changes.

Note for upgrading users: Due to the changes on the internal structure in HLGuard, we strongly recommend you either delete or rename your old HLGuard folder before installing HLGuard 1.7!

Related: Dystopia
To help celebrate the completion of our third development lan, Team Dystopia would like to pimp a handful of screenshots captured during our last play test session. Hopefully these screenshots will help stir up interest from gamers who are looking for mod with fresh, action packed team play.

In the first screenshot we see a Corps medium augmented player. Crystalmesher and Caliban worked hard to get this excellent model in game for Dev Lan. I'm sure you'll all agree it looks sensational and really fits our Dystopian cyberpunk theme. The green rectangle highlighting the model is an example of how you'll see friendly players when using the I.F.F (Identify Friend / Foe). The players implants are displayed at the top left of the HUD.

Our second and third featured screenshot are both of the same section of play; the first view with I.F.F on and the second with the Thermal Vision implant active. Have a close look and count the number of warm bodies in that last shot. Look closely in the first screenshot and you should be able to spot the sneaky hacker jacking in.

If you're liking what you're seeing, be sure to check out the rest of the shots in our Beta Screenshots media gallery.

I pleased to announce the hosting of a few new mod websites. I hope that these mods will continue to grow while hosted here on Half-Life Gaming.
For more information about the this mod, please check out their respected website.

I would first like to welcome KKND Front Strike:
KKND Krossfire was one of the best and most played strategy games which combined intelligent gameplay with bundled action for those times. Nowadays it has become a classical strategy game wich is still funny and interesting to play. KKND Krossfire was nominated to be the forerunner of all strategy games in reference to surroundings, interaction and gameplay.

Secondly I am glad to welcome Konoha's Special Forces:
Konoha's Special Forces is a Half-Life 1 modification based on the anime series Naruto.

I am also glad to welcome Spatial Fear to it's new home here on HL Gaming:
Players were given a taste of our game a couple of years ago when we released Spatial Fear: Prologue for Unreal Tournament. It was a short total conversion game showing off the universe we created and the gameplay style we were shooting for.
We've now moved to the Source engine (Half-Life 2) to power our next project, Spatial Fear. While our first release was more of a teaser to give players an idea of what to expect, Spatial Fear will be a full-fledged game.

I will be announcing a few more sites in the days and weeks to come.

I just read some disturbing news over at HL2Files.com. Apparently Barney and several other NPC's have raised some complaints towards Valve about abuse from Players with the Gravity Gun. The result is that Valve has banned 10.000 Steam accounts. Do not read further if you do not have a sense of humor :P

Bellevue, WA - Game developer Valve announced on their forums that they had banned another 10,000 Steam accounts for "gravity gun abuse" in their popular Half-Life 2 game. The company cited two reasons which prompted the ban. First, complaints from non-player characters (NPC) and secondly complaints from Valve's own modelers.

"We received a formal complaint from Barney of the Video Game Security Guard Union, stating the abuse from players was getting 'out of hand' and needed to be stopped. Particularly, from players using the gravity gun," said Valve's NPC Union Liaison Greg Palmer.

"We also received many complaints from our own modelers saying that nobody was using the weapons that they created. It just wasn't fair. We only put the grav gun in as a gimmick. We have found some people are using it to beat the game," continued Palmer.

"I spent 6 hours making the Combine gun mesh," said one modeler, "And now no one uses it."

Palmer noted that Valve, like other video game companies, was responsive to its NPC's and programmers' needs. "Banning these abusers was the only choice."

The gaming community was outraged. One upset user posted, "They put this cool weapon in their game and then ban us for using it. I'm never buying another game from Valve until Half-Life 3 comes out."

Valve also released a new patch for Half-Life 2 which would force players to swap weapons every three minutes, so they can get truly enjoy all the hard work the programmers have done. "This will prevent us from having to ban users in the future," said Palmer.

So watch out otherwise Valve's NPC Union will get you :P
