Hello fans!

I know it has been some time since my last major update so I am making up for it now. The team has been making many strides. Some of them are listed below.

I recently re-designed the message boards to look like the rest of the website. If you have not already checked out the new forums yet, please do!

Here is what has been happening:
  • The first chapter of the game is now complete. The second chapter is now under way.

  • We have many new staff members. Check out the staff page to see them all.

Although I have been successful in finding new members, there are still a few positions open. If you are interested please give me an e-mail (mjcs@hlgaming.com).

What we have

I currently have a 20 page + design document detailing the majority of the Single player mod.

I do not have that much to offer in the area of compensation except that your work will be shown to thousands of people guaranteed. The reason I can guarantee this is because I run www.hlgaming.com. As I get thousands of unique visitors each day.

Portion of he introduction
Stars can be seen, and some distance away, a star dock is active, and there seems to be a lot of activity going on around there, obviously a starship under construction, but it is impossible to identify it's class or name, and hard to see it's size.

A small transport shuttle passes in front of the screen, rather slowly, and at some moderate distance. The screen switches to show what is seemingly the interior of the small transport. Inside, there are two guards, as well as a science and a medical officer, a shuttle driver, an ensign, and the captain.

Half-Life 2 spray tags are really easy to make. SourceBall is going to be really good. Combine these two simple concepts, and you'll see we really had no choice but to launch the SOURCEBALL TAG DESIGN COMPETITION. The best entries, as selected by our development team, will be included in the release version of the mod with the designer's name as the title. You have the chance to show your talent off to a few million players! Click "read more" below for the rules, or check out the new dedicated forum (where you can also see my own excellent home-made SourceBall tag).

We look forward to seeing your entries!

The rules:

  • In order to be an eligable tag, it must be usable in standard HL2DM- that's the acid test, if it doesn't work in that don't submit it 'til it's fixed!

  • There are NO restrictions on type, size, or anything else. If it works in-game, and it's your own work, you can submit it.

  • YOU ARE LIMITED TO AN INFINTE NUMBER OF ENTRIES. If anyone posts more tags than that, they'll be disqualified, and probably set on fire. :)

  • Entries will only be accepted if you post a valid link to the image in the relevant place in the forum. If your link dies, your entry is gone! If you don't have anywhere to host the image, I recommend http://www.imageshack.us/ which I use myself- it's easy to use, reliable and quick to set up. Remember, you'll have to register on the forum to post!

  • We're making SourceBall, we like SourceBall, this is the SourceBall tag competition. With that in mind, your entries will probably do better if they are in some way related to SourceBall!

  • Don't submit things which are going to get us sued, please. We don't like being sued, it's rubbish. Don't get us sued, even a little bit...

  • The deadline for entries is the first public release of the mod- that's when we'll be judging, and including, the winners. We may choose to extend the competition beyond that date if we're still getting a high volume of entries, but the ones included with that release are staying in the mod forever.

Good luck and happy designing, everyone!

Last week marked the end of the Half-Life 2: Deathmatch level design contest. We received over 200 submissions, and we're going through and playtesting each one. There are a number of great maps in here, and we're already having trouble picking the clear winners. The release of the winning maps will coincide with a release of Half-Life 2: Deathmatch, which will include two new weapons: the Slam and Stunstick.

Also of note for level designers and Mod builders: there will be an update to the Half-Life SDK this week which most notably will include source files for six Half-Life 2 maps.

Lastly, work on Dave Riller's new map cs_compound continues, along with the other projects we're working on here at Valve. We'll have an update on the map and our other projects next month.
