I have recently been in contact with the folks from modDB. They inform me that a few days ago their host, oktagone, went down. For some reason or another it is taking them a long time to get back up if anytime soon.

modDB is a great service for the mod community and am wishing a quick return for modDB. Good luck guys.

Source: AMX Mod X
Four days ago was the one year anniversary of the start of the AMX Mod X project (Forum started on 2004-01-25, CVS started on 2004-01-31).

Well, we don't have anything special planned, but it's nice to know that what was once a few patches has grown to be a very popular server administration tool, and has well lasted a year, even after Half-Life 2's release.

Also, we will release again. We have fixed a few minor issues, and Linux people have reported that AMX Mod X will only work with pingboost level 3 (not 1/2), which also must be fixed. This release will probably happen within the next 2-3 weeks, as right now we're crunching away at SourceMod, the rewrite of the AMX Mod framework for Half-Life 2.

Thanks for sticking with us!

Our newest addition to the team is Quak who has already done some great work on our code! In order to keep the frequent updates of the code manageable, Drakanor has set up a CVS server.

Jammin has done hand-models for firstperson which are now used to animate the FN FAL. dEcon has done a render of that weapon.

We are still searching for skinners in order to get our weapons and playermodels skinned. If you are interested, please get in touch!

Liquid has finished the layout of his map station while Vaarscha is working on a map called backyard.

The whole team anticipates the playtest planned for this weekend, curious how our work will turn out online.

Related: Black Dragon
We over at www.blackdragonmod.com are making a Half Life 2 Mod called, you guessed it "Black Dragon".
We're currently looking for Modellers, Mappers and Animators in helping to bring this mod alive.

Black Dragon is a single player modification with an immersing story that grows with the character. Resource management techniques are implemented. These are tied into the story so tightly that at no time will the player feel burdened by this.

Large scale battles in huge, lush environments. You will feel overwhelmed, but you will have control. With the help of high end AI available from the Source Engine, there will be dynamic results to battles. Each result will be reflected as the game progresses.
The only way to lose is to die. If your side loses a battle you accept the consequences and move on to the next mission.
Each action by the player is tallied. Honorable actions will result in raise of rank as well as other benefits. Going against your orders will have the opposite effect.

No previous experience is required in modding for a game, but we would like to see any work you've produced for whatever position you're applying for.

To give you more insight into the story behind Black Dragon here's a section of the backstory:

"The beginning of 2030 saw the world at a very turbulent time. Countries were at each other's throats and the world economy was falling drastically. With the UN disappearing by 2040, countries made their own alliances. Largely based on landmass, two main governments were created. One was the mixture of Europe, Asia, Africa and Australia (Joint Eastern Confederation). The other was comprised of the North and South America, as well as Antarctica (Unity Coalition). This division of the world only spread more flames and eventually triggered what became known as World War III. As it was predicted, the third of the world wars would be the most costly. The launch of four separate nuclear missiles, two by each side, meant the death of 30% of the world's population. Not only did a harsh nuclear winter follow, but certain areas of the globe became unable to support life for hundreds of years.

After this catastrophe some common ground was achieved between the two parties. A treaty was signed which established that no more wars will be fought on Earth. This was the agreement that forever established Earth as a neutral ground.

By the year 2120, humanity began to rebuild itself. The populations were rising again and advances in science were continuing to make life better for everyone. The limited space gave birth to the use of “Mega Cities”, which were layered vertically, rather then horizontally. Additionally, a better understanding of solar energy allowed humans to harness the power of the Sun more efficiently then ever. "

If you're interested then please E-mail:

kris.kruk@gmail.com

With your name, the position you want to fill and a link or an attachment of a sample of your work.

Thank you

Era of Legends, the first online RPG on the Source engine, is proud to release our first ingame screenshots. We've been working very hard, and almost everything you see in these screenshots is fully functional. We are still looking for an animator and a texture artist, so contact Lanethan at fsdrb4@uaf.edu if you are interested.

Source: Source Racer
We've added power-ups, sound, and better tracks to an already fun arcade racing game. This is a full version, not an upgrade, so you can simply delete your old Source Racer installation. A dedicated server version is also provided that has the necessary files for both Windows and Linux dedicated servers to run. Go to the Downloads link to get the latest version!

Related: Dystopia
If you've been tracking the progress of Dystopia via the team's .plan files you'll be aware of the amount of work the team has gotten through over the last few weeks. We've passed a number of milestones and the general air of excitement around the team is sensational. All of the development team and a collection of hand picked testers have been putting Dystopia through it's paces on our testing server, graciously hosted by the Australian Professional Gaming Network. As well as a mountain of positive feedback, our testers have helped us stamp out many bugs and fix many balance issues.

Answering everyone's biggest question; no we aren't currently looking for more testers. Our plan is to run this closed testing until Dystopia is feature complete and we have most of our art assets in game. When we kick off the open beta, everyone will be able to download the mod and begin to jack in and kick ass. However, we are not announcing a time frame for this. It will simply be released when it's done.

To show off some of the recent work done by the team, I'm happy to release renders showing off the model for the Corporation Security Force's Light and Medium Augmented classes and also a render showing off the recently completed NPC street bum. This shabby fellow and his dog Scrappy will be some of the NPC characters which help fill out Dystopia's game world. All three of these models are in game and functioning.

We've had a big influx of visitors after gaining some excellent coverage from PC Gamer magazine. A big hello to all our new fans from the entire team and a recomendation that you all register on the forums and swing by our IRC channel: irc://irc.ausirc.com/dystopia. Both of these will allow you to keep up with our progress behind the scenes. We often show off work in progress and in game screenshots from our testing sessions.
