VTF Explorer is a tool for viewing and extracting Source Engine format texture files (.vtf's - Valve Texture Files). Program allows you to view whole folder full of VTF's either from hard disk or .gcf file as a collection of thumbnails. You can view all frames, mip levels and cubemap faces of VTF files as well as read their flags. You can also use VTF Explorer to extract files from Steam's .gcf packages.
[version 1.0]
  • reworked interface

  • Windows shell registration of .vtf files

  • added support for .gcf files - now you can browse textures without extracting them

  • you can extract anything you want from the .gcf file

  • added support for all frames and cubemap faces of texture

  • added advanced export feature which extracts elements from .vtf (similar to vtf2tga tool) with ability to write .raw format images

  • changed name from VTF Viewer to VTF Explorer

Source: Iron Grip
After a few months of preparation we are pleased to announce the Iron Grip Half Life 2 project. The reason it took some time before we opened to the public, was because we wanted to complete our concept and make it solid. We also wanted enough eye-candy so people could get a taste of what we are trying to achieve.

Iron Grip is a fantasy / sci-fi world in which more projects will be created. Our first Iron Grip project is "The Oppression". What makes this mod unique is the combination of some of the best game aspects. RTS, FPS and Cooperative game play all in one!

In Iron Grip: The Oppression, you can either play as the Kathos Resistance, or Rahmos. The resistance are forced to fight in the streets, sheltering in buildings, while Rahmos has heavy vehicles and the advantage of numbers. The Resistance team play a FPS, seeking and destroying Rahmos control points. The Rahmos team consists out of one or two players. A General, who commands the map and creates units like a normal RTS. He can hire a major (another Human player), to join him, and help him in his quest to rid the map of resistance.

And this is just the tip of the iceberg. Head over to our website for more information and images! This mod will be complete with its own soundtrack and sound effects!

Also the website is a living world on its own, with constant news updates and tons of graphical material.

With trailers and short films coming up, we hope to breath life to the Iron Grip world. But above all, we wish to bring people a new and extremely fun game play situated into a big storyline and background.

Iron Grip evolves around the will to make something good and solid. We are working extremely hard to create a mod, which will stand out in game play and quality.

As we are working fast and with a strong structure, we could use some extra hands. If you are a person with a strong will and determination who wishes to work on projects with a professional goal, contact us on team@irongrip.net Please include a "list" of your skills and some reference material or portfolio.
If all goes well, we are planning to release Iron Grip: The Oppression during Camp Zone 2005 in Holland preceded by a presentation hosted by DemoZone.

Lately two new very skilled 3D artists have joined our team in order to reach the high quality requirements for Sands-of-War 2. Welcome to you BoomeR and Nimajneb!

BoomeR has already produced his first concept art. The first one is a modified USP with a dotsight. The 2nd one is the G36C which is a rifle with lots of possibilities and extensions.

The release date for Sands-of-War 1.5 has now been ratified. It is now certain that SoW 1.5 will follow the the 3 months development cycle, which we succesfully have been using for the last couple of versions. This means that:
Sands-of-War 1.5 will be released at March 1st!

Thanks to BigBird a linux server build will be released at the same time as the game itself. So prepare your servers

I was just given the opportunity to interview Nils "Anable" Dougan from the Source Racer mod. You may or may not have already played this mod. If not you are welcomed to download it from Here. Although their website is down due to construction they have a very active forum up. You can view that via the link above. This has to be the most insightful interview I have done to date as it goes into detail many aspects of the modification.

Included in the Interview are some screenshots of an upcoming map for beta 3 called "sr_moonbase."
Half-Life Gaming: What do you do when you start to run out of ideas?
Anable: Go play more games! If you are ever unsure of why you started your mod or where it's going, go back and play the games that inspired it. If it's something worth doing, you'll soon remember why.

Half-Life Gaming: Why did you decide to use the Half-Life 2 engine and not Doom 3's engine or others?
Anable: To begin with, Half-Life 2 already had much of the code that we needed to get the mod started. Had we chosen Doom 3 we would have had to create our own vehicle physics and so on. Half-Life 2 is gorgeous, easy to mod, and was begging for a way to race against other people.

Half-Life Gaming: What kind of other Multiplayer modes do you have planned?
Anable: Right now the plan is to simply have the standard racing mode. When get get that working perfectly and exactly the way we want, then we'll begin thinking about other options to add.

The much-anticipated cooperative conversion of Steven "EraSerX" Delrue's popular single-player mod Case Closed is finally here! Download from one of the mirrors below, then extract to your Half-Life\\ directory.

Half-Life Gaming.com

Case Closed Co-op puts players in the role of janitors caught in the middle of the Black Mesa disaster, taking them through ten action-packed maps - each thoroughly reworked, recompiled and rebalanced by forum moderator Hezus!

In other news, our fondest farewells to Sven Co-op 3D artist Caldwell, who is now working full-time in the gaming industry! His past work includes (but is not limited to) the SC player model animations, Tor, and various 3.5 weapon models. With his level of skill, I'm sure he'll have a great career over at Blue Tongue!

Related: Garry's Mod
Version 7a of Garry's Mod has been released. This is mainly a bug fixing release but also introduces the material tool. using the material tool you can change the material on props and models.
  • Added material changer

  • Fixed sprites preventing saved games from working

  • Made balloons use a shiny material

  • Fixed black FATCAN being offset from the object you attach it to

  • Made tincan thrusters solid so you can remove them individually

  • Fixed lamps losing their beam after saveload

  • Now saves static/prop camera properly

  • Fixed spawning in CS maps

  • Moved manhack spawner to the multigun

  • Restored original pistol

  • Moved render target camera positioner to multigun

  • Restored original 357

  • Updated map (Terrain doesn't look like Barry Manilow's face anymore)

  • Fixed problems caused by latest steam update (My fault - not theirs)

Twice in one night? That's right baby!

There's a new version of Garry's Mod that allows you to use content from Counter-Strike Source. The download is around the same size as the Half-Life 2 version of Garry's Mod. The only difference is that you won't be able to play Half-Life 2 single player maps in the CS:S version.

But don't worry - both can co-exist on your system quite happily! So seriously - don't worry!
